{"id":93790,"date":"2025-09-12T14:49:33","date_gmt":"2025-09-12T14:49:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sotnews.agency\/?p=93790"},"modified":"2025-09-12T14:49:33","modified_gmt":"2025-09-12T14:49:33","slug":"waec-contemplates-computer-based-testing-to-curb-exam-malpractice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sotnews.agency\/?p=93790","title":{"rendered":"WAEC contemplates computer-based testing to curb exam malpractice"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class='booster-block booster-read-block'>\n                <div class=\"twp-read-time\">\n                \t<i class=\"booster-icon twp-clock\"><\/i> <span>Read Time:<\/span>1 Minute, 45 Second                <\/div>\n\n            <\/div><div>\n<p>The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) says it is exploring the introduction of computer-based testing (CBT) as part of efforts to tackle malpractice in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).<\/p>\n<p>WAEC\u2019s Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, says under the proposed system, candidates would write their examinations using computers instead of the traditional paper-based format.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that the Council has already held technical discussions on the idea and is preparing to pilot it with a smaller exam before a nationwide rollout.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Read also: WAEC to blacklist corrupt exam officials exposed in JoyNews\u2019 \u2018Dark World of BECE\u2019 documentary<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cGradually, we are also thinking about computer-based testing, which is something that we have thought about. We have had a technical committee meeting. We want to pilot that with one of our small examinations, the general and advanced business certificate examination,\u201d Mr. Kapi said in an interview with Accra-based Channel One TV on Friday, September 12. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is an examination that does not have a large candidature, so we can manage them at the regional capital, where we are sure of internet connectivity, and once we are able to do that, we believe we can begin the process, so that if that works, we can replicate it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Council says officials implicated in acts of corruption during the BECE will be blacklisted from ever taking part in its activities again.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Read also: Some GES officials took GH\u00a260 to aid cheating in 2025 BECE \u2013 JoyNews expos\u00e9\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Speaking on JoyNews\u2019 PM Express, Mr Kapi said the Council cannot continue to work with individuals who have betrayed the trust placed in them during national examinations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are people who certainly have not proved that they are worthy of the trust that we repose in them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs far as this job is concerned, let me also indicate that when it comes to BECE, most of the decisions are taken by the Ghana Education Service. For example, the selection of supervisors and invigilators is done by the district exams officer,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n        <div class=\"booster-block booster-reactions-block\">\n
