A well-known deodorant brand has apologised after some of its roll-on products reportedly left customers with itchy, burning armpits.<\/p>\n

Consumers of Mitchum\u2019s 48-hour roll-on anti-perspirant and deodorant complained on social media of having \u201cagonising weeping spots\u201d, redness and irritation after using the product.<\/p>\n

Posting on TikTok, one customer claimed she wanted to \u201crip my armpits out\u201d, while another said her underarms felt like they were \u201con fire\u201d.<\/p>\n

The company said it was \u201ctruly sorry\u201d and explained how a change in the manufacturing process had affected 100ml batches sold in the UK, Ireland and South Africa. It said it was removing the affected products from shelves.<\/p>\n

Steph Buttery, 34, from Manchester, has been a loyal Mitchum customer for the last 15 years.<\/p>\n

But after she started using a new bottle of the firm\u2019s aerosol Powder Fresh deodorant in July, she developed an itchy red rash around her armpits and says she \u201cstarted smelling really bad\u201d.<\/p>\n

Steph, who runs a soft drinks company, says she had to keep her arms down throughout an important business meeting, because she was so conscious of the smell.<\/p>\n

She has since switched deodorant brands and says the problems have stopped.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been totally turned off [Mitchum] for life. I\u2019m going to go for natural deodorant from now on.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mitchum has not included any aerosol deodorants in the list of affected products.<\/p>\n

Steph is one of hundreds of people who have taken to sharing videos of their\u00a0experience on TikTok.<\/p>\n

One woman said she was unable to sleep after using the roll-on because it left her with \u201csecond degree chemical burns on my armpits\u201d.<\/p>\n

Another described her underarm skin as developing a pink rash which had \u201cscabbed over\u201d.<\/p>\n

A third said she was left in agony because of \u201cweeping spots\u201d under her arm.<\/p>\n

\u201cI won\u2019t be using any Mitchum products again because I\u2019m not risking this happening again,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

A Mitchum spokesperson said the brand was \u201ctruly sorry some of our customers have experienced temporary irritation\u201d.<\/p>\n

In a statement, the company said: \u201cWe want to reassure there has been no change to the formula of our products, but we have identified a change in the manufacturing process affecting one of our raw materials.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis has impacted how the roll-on interacts with the skin of some users.\u201d<\/p>\n

It did not give details of what the change to its manufacturing process was but said the issue had since been resolved and it was working to \u201cremove the small amount of product\u201d left in shops.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn addition, we have reverted to the original manufacturing process to ensure no other batches are affected,\u201d the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

Mitchum advised all those affected to contact its customer services team so it could \u201cmake this right\u201d.<\/p>\n
