Over the past week or so, Apple Music has slowly unveiled the titles included in its list of the \u201c100 best albums.\u201d<\/p>\n

Today, the top 10 albums were revealed, with Miss Lauryn Hill<\/a><\/span><\/span>\u2019s\u00a0The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill<\/em>\u00a0claiming the No. 1 spot.<\/p>\n

Rounding out the top five are Michael Jackson\u2019s\u00a0Thriller<\/em>; The Beatles\u2019\u00a0Abbey Road<\/em>; Prince\u2019s Purple Rain; and Frank Ocean\u2019s\u00a0Blonde<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The top 10 also includes Stevie Wonder\u2019s\u00a0Songs in the Key of Life<\/em>; Kendrick Lamar\u2019s\u00a0good kid, m.A.A.d city (Deluxe Version)<\/em>; Amy Winehouse\u2019s\u00a0Back to Black<\/em>; Nirvana\u2019s\u00a0Nevermind;<\/em>\u00a0and Beyonc\u00e9\u2019s\u00a0Lemonade<\/em>.<\/p>\n

In all honestly, it\u2019s a pretty safe top 10, especially considering the drama that unfolded when Apple unveiled picks 11-20 and slotted Adele\u2019s\u00a021<\/em>\u00a0at No. 15 and Taylor Swift\u2019s\u00a01989 (Taylor\u2019s Version)<\/em>\u00a0at No. 18 \u2014 ahead of albums like Dr. Dre\u2019s\u00a0The Chronic<\/em>, The Beach Boys\u2019\u00a0Pet Sounds<\/em>, The Beatles\u2019\u00a0Revolver<\/em>, Bruce Springsteen\u2019s\u00a0Born to Run<\/em>, and Miles Davis\u2019\u00a0Kind of Blue<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Lists are very much subjective and designed to rouse a reaction.<\/p>\n

Personally, I think albums like Fleetwood Mac\u2019s\u00a0Rumours\u00a0<\/em>(#11), Joni Mitchell\u2019s\u00a0Blue<\/em>\u00a0(#16), and The Clash\u2019s\u00a0London Calling\u00a0<\/em>(#35) are much too low.<\/p>\n

The list also lacks albums from Stooges, Leonard Cohen, Fiona Apple, Sly Stone, Slayer, The Police, and Paul Simon (plus Kendrick Lamar\u2019s\u00a0To Pimp A Butterfly<\/em>) in favour of newer artists like Travis Scott, Bad Bunny, and Kacey Musgraves.<\/p>\n

But lists are very much subjective and designed to rouse a reaction (for context: here\u2019s our top 100 albums of all-time list<\/a>\u00a0published in 2022).<\/p>\n

A couple of other quick stats: Five artists have multiple entries on Apple\u2019s top 100: Radiohead (Kid A<\/em>,\u00a0OK Computer<\/em>); Stevie Wonder (Innervisions<\/em>,\u00a0Songs in the Key of Life<\/em>); Beyonc\u00e9 (Beyonc\u00e9<\/em>,\u00a0Lemonade<\/em>); Prince (Sign O\u2019The Times<\/em>,\u00a0Purple Rain<\/em>); and The Beatles (Revolver<\/em>,\u00a0Abbey Road<\/em>). The newest album included on the list? If you don\u2019t count\u00a01989 (Taylor\u2019s Version)<\/em>, which was released in October 2023, then that accolade goes to SZA\u2019s\u00a0SOS<\/em>, which arrived in December 2022.<\/p>\n

According to Apple, the list was crafted by \u201ca team of experts alongside a select group of artists, including Maren Morris, Pharrell Williams, J Balvin, Charli XCX, Mark Hoppus, Honey Dijon, and Nia Archives, as well as songwriters, producers, and industry professionals.<\/p>\n

The list is an editorial statement, fully independent of any streaming numbers on Apple Music \u2014 a love letter to the records that have shaped the world we live and listen in.\u201d<\/p>\n
