The Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Sam Nartey George, has announced the appointment of KPMG as transaction advisor to oversee the proposed merger between AT Ghana (formerly AirtelTigo) and Telecel Ghana.<\/p>\n

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, September 5, 2025, Mr George said the move is part of government\u2019s plan to create a second strong mobile operator to address the current imbalance in Ghana\u2019s telecommunications market.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe government has appointed KPMG as transaction advisor to guide the future of AT, with the goal of building a strong competitor to rebalance the mobile market,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

KPMG\u2019s role will include reviewing government shareholding in Telecel Ghana to strengthen competition and improve service delivery. The firm has been given 60 days to complete its work.<\/p>\n

Addressing staff concerns, the Minister assured AT Ghana employees that their jobs are secure.<\/p>\n

\u201cApproximately 300 permanent staff of AT will maintain their employment. I have already met with them and given that assurance. The transaction advisor has also been instructed to consider the fate of the 200 contract staff,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
