Pressure is mounting on President John Dramani Mahama to act on petitions seeking the removal of Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson Jean Mensa and her two deputies, Dr. Eric Bossman Asare and Samuel Tettey.<\/p>\n

One such petition was filed in January by the Positive Transparency and Accountability Movement Africa (PTAAM Africa), which cited three grounds for her removal: causing financial loss to the state, creating a constitutional crisis, and allegations of misconduct and abuse of public resources.<\/p>\n

Vice President of PTAAM Africa, Rashid Isah, reiterated the call in an interview on Joy FM\u2019s Top Story<\/strong> on Wednesday, September 3, expressing frustration over the presidency\u2019s silence on the petition.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a matter of fact, we\u2019ve not had any clear communication as to what action the President is hoping to take on our petition. We have sent reminders, and we are prepared to follow up if nothing is done. As of now, there has been no direct communication,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Mr. Isah argued that the EC Chair\u2019s past decisions, including her insistence on compiling a new voters\u2019 register ahead of the 2020 elections at a cost of over $80 million despite economic difficulties, amounted to mismanagement and financial loss to the state.<\/p>\n

He further pointed to instances of electoral violence and the disenfranchisement of an entire constituency during the 2020 polls as evidence of a constitutional crisis under her leadership.<\/p>\n

PTAAM Africa said its petition was submitted on January 8, 2025, shortly after the new government assumed office. While acknowledging that the administration needed time to settle in, the group noted it had since sent reminders in April and was prepared to escalate its demands if no response comes from the presidency.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are keeping our fingers crossed, but we have also taken note of certain actions by this government that appear to be geared towards the same goal. As a team, we will soon decide on our next line of action,\u201d Mr. Isa added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
