President of the Republic of Ghana, John Mahama has described the Democracy Cup as \u201cnot just a trophy but a national symbol\u201d, commending Speaker of Parliament honorable Alban Bagbin for introducing the initiative.<\/p>\n

Bagbin, accompanied by a delegation of sports dignitaries, presented the 2025 Democracy Cup trophy to the President at the Jubilee House ahead of this year\u2019s competition. <\/p>\n

The presentation formed part of a symbolic tour of key governance institutions and prominent national figures.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis presentation marks the final lap of a symbolic journey that the cup has undertaken,\u201d the Speaker said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe bring this before you, Your Excellency, as the ultimate custodian of our national unity and the embodiment of the collective aspirations of our people.\u201d<\/p>\n

In his response, President Mahama praised the Speaker\u2019s decision to link democracy with sport, saying it has created a platform to engage young people while highlighting the values of democratic governance.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis cup is not just a trophy but a national symbol,\u201d Mahama said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is an enduring reminder of our democratic values and our responsibility to safeguard them. Accept the democracy cup not as a personal honor but on behalf of the people of Ghana whose resilience and faith continue to sustain our democracy.<\/p>\n

\u201cMay this cup remind us daily that democracy is not an event but a living process \u2014 one we must all work together to protect and deepen for generations to come.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 2025 edition of the Democracy Cup will take place on Friday, 5 September, at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
