North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has arrived in the Chinese capital Beijing along with his daughter, Kim Ju Ae, to attend a major military parade.<\/p>\n

The \u201cVictory Day\u201d parade on Wednesday will see him rub shoulders with China\u2019s Xi Jinping, Russia\u2019s Vladimir Putin and other world leaders.<\/p>\n

Photos showed Kim stepping off his armoured train at Beijing Railway Station accompanied by his daughter. South Korea\u2019s spy agency has previously said she was Kim\u2019s \u201cmost likely\u201d successor.<\/p>\n

Xi will host China\u2019s largest-ever military parade on Wednesday to mark the 80th anniversary of the formal surrender of the Japanese at the end of World War Two.<\/p>\n

Kim crossed into China on Tuesday onboard his train, which is said to include a restaurant serving fine French wines and dishes like fresh lobster.<\/p>\n

Miss Kim has appeared in public frequently alongside her father since she made her debut in November 2022. Details about her are very limited, however.<\/p>\n

There are conflicting reports regarding her age. In 2023, the South\u2019s National Intelligence Service (NIS) said\u00a0it believed she was around 10 years old.<\/p>\n

North Korea\u2019s state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said Kim was greeted at the station by several high-ranking members of the Communist Party of China (CPC), including Foreign Minister Wang Yi.<\/p>\n

The report said they met in a \u201cwarm atmosphere\u201d and that Kim had thanked President Xi for the \u201centhusiastic and cordial hospitality\u201d. It does not acknowledge the presence of his daughter.<\/p>\n

Kim left Pyongyang on Monday, but the train\u2019s heavy protection means it travels slowly.<\/p>\n

Kim\u2019s attendance marks the first time a North Korean leader has attended a Chinese military parade since 1959. He will be among 26 other heads of state \u2013 including leaders from Myanmar, Iran and Cuba \u2013 who will be there.<\/p>\n

His attendance is an upgrade from China\u2019s last Victory Day parade in 2015, when Pyongyang sent one of its top officials, Choe Ryong-hae.<\/p>\n

The reclusive leader rarely travels abroad, with his recent contact with world leaders limited to Putin, who he\u2019s met twice since Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine.<\/p>\n

He last visited Beijing in 2019 for an event marking the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the countries. That trip also saw him travel by train.<\/p>\n

The tradition of travelling via train was started by Kim\u2019s grandfather Kim Il Sung \u2013 who took his own train trips to Vietnam and Eastern Europe.<\/p>\n

Kim\u2019s father, Kim Jong Il, travelled by train as well as he was reportedly afraid of flying.<\/p>\n

According to one South Korean news outlet, the armoured train has around 90 carriages, including conference rooms, audience chambers and bedrooms.<\/p>\n

Tens of thousands of military personnel will march in formation through Beijing\u2019s historic Tiananmen Square on the day of the parade, which will mark the 80th anniversary of Japan\u2019s formal surrender in World War Two and the end of the conflict.<\/p>\n

The 70-minute parade is likely to feature China\u2019s latest weaponry, including hundreds of aircraft, tanks and anti-drone systems \u2013 the first time its military\u2019s new force structure is being fully showcased in a parade.<\/p>\n

Most Western leaders are not expected to attend the parade, due to their opposition to Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine, which has driven the sanctions against Putin\u2019s regime.<\/p>\n

But it will see leaders from Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar and Vietnam in attendance \u2013 further proof of Beijing\u2019s concerted efforts to ramp up ties with neighbouring South East Asia.<\/p>\n

Just one EU leader will be attending \u2013 Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico \u2013 while Bulgaria and Hungary will send representatives.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
