The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has defended its bail procedures, insisting they are always set within the confines of the law.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Asempa FM\u2019s\u00a0Ekosii Sen<\/em>\u00a0show, EOCO\u2019s Legal Officer, Paa Brew Sam, explained that the conditions are guided by the Criminal and Other Offences (Procedure) Act, 1960 (Act 30).<\/p>\n

\u201cWe always consider the gravity or nature of the offence. We have been challenged in court before regarding our bail conditions, and the outcome proved we are not acting outside the constitution,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Mr. Sam clarified that under Section 15 of Act 30, EOCO has the power to grant police inquiry bail, while Section 96 allows courts to grant bail pending trial or appeal.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhatever we do is in line with the law, and in some cases, the severity of the offence determines the bail conditions,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
