Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has attributed Ghana\u2019s recent economic challenges to what he termed fiscal recklessness under the former Akufo-Addo-led New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.<\/p>\n

Speaking to journalists at the Africa\u2013Singapore Business Forum on Monday, August 25, Mr Kwakye Ofosu argued that excessive spending by the previous government was a major factor in the country\u2019s financial downturn.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of the problems that triggered the economic decline under the NPP was fiscal indiscipline \u2013 the tendency to live beyond our means and spend more than we earned,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He drew a contrast with the current administration under President John Mahama, stressing that it has exercised prudence in expenditure while channelling resources into essential areas.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are not spending beyond our means, we are not being extravagant. Our focus is on critical sectors,\u201d he emphasised.<\/p>\n

Mr Kwakye Ofosu also highlighted the government\u2019s cost-cutting approach, citing the modest ministerial delegation to Singapore for the forum.<\/p>\n

\u201cLook at the delegation that came here \u2013 just three or four ministers of state. But if I show you the size of delegations that accompanied President Akufo-Addo on his travels, you would be astonished. All these things add up to the cost of running government,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
