Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) paid glowing tribute to the late Defence Minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, and three soldiers who died in the August 6 military helicopter crash.<\/p>\n

In a tribute at the state funeral at the Black Star Square on Friday, August 15, the CDS described Dr Boamah\u2019s short tenure as Defence Minister as \u201ctransformative,\u201d marked by innovation, merit-based recruitment, retooling of the Armed Forces, bridging the accommodation deficit, revitalising the Defence Industries Holding Company Limited, and prioritising the welfare and healthcare of troops and veterans.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was not just a boss or leader, he was a role model and mentor,\u201d Lt. Gen. Oppong-Peprah said, recalling his grace, depth of thought, and ability to inspire teamwork and shared purpose.<\/p>\n

The CDS also honoured Squadron Leader Peter Baafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah for their professionalism, skill, and dedication to duty.<\/p>\n

Squadron Leader Anala, commissioned in 2014, was praised for his advanced piloting skills, technical expertise, and mentorship that strengthened the Air Force\u2019s combat readiness.<\/p>\n

Flying Officer Ampadu, commissioned in 2021 after training at the Royal Air Force Academy, was lauded for his precision, adaptability, and tactical understanding, qualities that made him a clear prospect for future command.<\/p>\n

Sergeant Mensah, an aircraft technician enlisted in 2011, was recognised for his engineering expertise, adherence to airworthiness standards, and mentorship of junior technicians, ensuring the operational readiness of the Z-9 helicopter fleet.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo the bereaved families, I extend my deepest condolences. As the bugle sounds and the night holds its silence, we salute them \u2014 brave men who served with pride and fell with honour. <\/p>\n

\u201cTheir skills and dedication will continue to influence our training, maintenance, and operational doctrines for years to come,\u201d the CDS said.<\/p>\n

Dr Edward Omane Boamah was among eight Ghanaians who lost their lives in the helicopter crash, alongside Minister for Environment Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed; former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye; NDC Vice Chairman Samuel Sarpong; Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed; and crew members Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
