Ghanaian comedian OB Amponsah has been crowned champion of the 2025 Ultimate Comic Challenge at The Idiot Box Comedy Club<\/em> in Greensboro, North Carolina.<\/p>\n

He secured a $2,000 cash prize and a headlining slot at the venue.<\/p>\n

The competition, now in its 19th year, began in May and featured comedians from across the United States battling through multiple elimination rounds. Six finalists competed in the grand finale on 9 August: Troy Doughie Harris, Seth Payne, OB Amponsah, Musah Artsy, Ethan Justice and Jay Stadler.<\/p>\n

The final showcased a variety of comedic styles, from dry observational humour to energetic physical performances. <\/p>\n

OB Amponsah\u2019s sharp punchlines, international perspective and skilful crowd interaction won over the audience and judges.<\/p>\n

The results were:<\/p>\n

\u2022 3rd place \u2013 Jay Stadler<\/p>\n

\u2022 2nd place \u2013 Seth Payne<\/p>\n

\u2022 1st place \u2013 OB Amponsah<\/p>\n

\u201cThis means a lot,\u201d OB said after his win. \u201cMoving to the U.S. and starting fresh in a new comedy scene has been a challenge. This competition gave me the chance to connect with audiences here, and the love has been incredible. Greensboro, you have my heart.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Idiot Box has hosted the Ultimate Comic Challenge since its inception, serving as a launchpad for many comedians\u2019 careers. Co-owner Jenny Stencel praised OB\u2019s performance: \u201cNineteen years in, and the talent just keeps getting better. OB brought something unique \u2013 clever writing, cultural depth, and that rare ability to make every person in the room feel like he\u2019s talking directly to them.\u201d<\/p>\n

With his victory, OB Amponsah joins past champions who have gone on to tour nationally, appear on television and headline major comedy festivals. <\/p>\n

His upcoming headlining set at The Idiot Box is already attracting strong interest from comedy fans.<\/p>\n
