U.S. President\u00a0Donald Trump<\/a>\u00a0declined to say whether he supported or opposed a\u00a0potential military takeover<\/a>\u00a0of Gaza by Israel and said his administration\u2019s focus was on increasing food access to the Palestinian enclave under assault from Washington\u2019s ally.<\/p>\n

Israel\u2019s nearly two-year-long military assault in Gaza has killed\u00a0tens of thousands<\/a>, caused a\u00a0hunger crisis<\/a>, internally\u00a0displaced<\/a>\u00a0nearly the entire population and led to accusations of\u00a0genocide<\/a>\u00a0at the International Court of Justice and of\u00a0war crimes<\/a>\u00a0at the International Criminal Court.<\/p>\n

Israel\u00a0denies the accusations<\/a>\u00a0and casts its military offensive as self-defence following an\u00a0October 2023 attack<\/a>\u00a0by Palestinian Hamas militants that killed 1,200 and in which over\u00a0250 were taken hostage<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
