Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has made it clear that he will not allow LGBTQ activities in the country if he becomes president, regardless of any potential consequences.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Vice President reaffirmed his LGBTQ stance, stating that such activities are against the doctrines of both the Bible and the Quran.<\/p>\n

Also, Dr. Bawumia highlighted that activities related to LGBTQ are against the values of the country and therefore cannot be tolerated.<\/p>\n

He noted that both the Bible and the Quran, as well as the majority of Ghanaians, do not endorse such practices.<\/p>\n

The NPP flagbearer, in a meeting with the clergy in Tamale on Thursday, May 16, stated, among other things, that, \u201cOn this matter of LGBTQ, I want to say again without any equivocation that we will not allow it in Ghana. It is not going to be allowed. Our Bible says no, our Quran says no, and our people say no. So no. That is the answer.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNo man will be marrying a man, no woman will be marrying a woman. It is not our value. And I will stand firm no matter the consequences.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will stand firm on that matter no matter the consequences. We will safeguard our country and we will safeguard our people.\u201d<\/p>\n

It would be recalled that the Vice President in April publicly denounced the activities of LGBTQ.<\/p>\n

In his first public remarks on the controversial issue, Dr. Bawumia minced no words in completely shooting it down while addressing thousands of Muslims in Kumasi during the observation of Eid prayers.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is important to note our cultural, societal and norms, as well as our values as Ghanaians frown on same-sex marriage.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a Muslim, my view on this matter aligns with the position of my religious faith. My faith is strictly against the practice of LGBTQ+. No ifs, no buts.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAll the major religious traditions in Ghana [Christianity and Islam] are opposed to this practice and I stand opposed to it now and I will stand opposed to it as President, Insha Allah,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Ghana\u2019s Parliament has passed a strong anti-LGBTQ Bill, and the Bill is now awaiting a presidential assent<\/p>\n

However, the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has indicated his inability to sign the bill into law, as its constitutionality is being challenged in court by human rights activists.<\/p>\n
