Ghana U17 coach Laryea Kingston has commended the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the KGL foundation for the intentional development of youthful talents.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This follows Ghana\u2019s bright start to the 2024 West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Zone B U17 competition.<\/p>\n

The hosts kicked off the competition with a remarkable 5-1 victory over Ivory Coast on Wednesday at the University of Ghana stadium.<\/p>\n

Joseph Narbi scored the first two goals before a goal each from Godfred Sarpong, Harve Gbafa and Mark Kagawa Mensah sealed the victory for the Black Starlets.<\/p>\n

Speaking after the game, Kingston was full of praise for the KGL Foundation U17 tournament organised by the GFA which he believes has played a huge role in developing juvenile talents.<\/p>\n

\u201cThanks to KGL Foundation for their massive support. When I got to the country, I was lucky they had partnered with the GFA to develop a tournament that brings together our best Under-17 Colts players; and trust me, this particular group of players have about 8 players from the KGL Foundation tournament,<\/em>\u201d Laryea said after the game.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, for me the journey started very early and we are grateful to the GFA and KGL Foundation for their massive assistance<\/em>,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The KGL Foundation is the official sponsor of juvenile football in Ghana, investing $1 million each year for five years.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the U17 team has shown promise in the past year recording big wins in friendly games as well as invitational tournaments.<\/p>\n

Before the WAFU competition, they had recorded two 5-1 victories over Kazakhstan and Serbia last month during the U16 UEFA Youth championship.<\/p>\n

Laryea Kingston is now on a mission to lead Ghana back to the U17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) which has eluded the Black Starlets since 2017.<\/p>\n

As they focus on their next game against Benin on Tuesday, the broader objective is to go all the way to reach the final of the competition.<\/p>\n
