Defence Minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, has assured Ghanaians that while the overall security of the nation remains stable, government is closely monitoring the volatile situation in Bawku and Alavanyo.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series at Jubilee House on Monday, July 21, Dr Boamah said the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) have been tasked to remain vigilant and act swiftly to prevent any escalation of violence in these areas.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile Ghana\u2019s internal and external security remains largely stable, we acknowledge that the situation in Bawku and Alavanyo, and their surrounding communities, remains quite volatile,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

Robust Security Measures in Place<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to the Minister, the Armed Forces have activated land, maritime, and air security operations nationwide. Specific interventions are in place in conflict-prone areas like Bawku and Alavanyo to ensure rapid responses to any incidents.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Armed Forces are actively monitoring developments and have put in place robust mechanisms to ensure that any potential escalation is swiftly contained,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur goal is a peaceful and lasting resolution through dialogue.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dr Boamah stressed that government is committed to distinguishing criminal activities from legitimate traditional issues, especially in areas experiencing chieftaincy conflicts.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will always separate crime from traditional issues. That distinction allows us to deal appropriately\u2014and legally\u2014with those who incite unrest under the pretext of chieftaincy disputes,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Reconstruction of Zugran Statue<\/strong><\/p>\n

Addressing recent tensions in Bawku, Dr Boamah confirmed the government\u2019s decision to reconstruct the statue of the Zugran of the Kusaug Traditional Area, which was destroyed during recent disturbances.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet me assure everyone that steps are being taken to restore dignity and stability in Bawku. The reconstruction of the Zugran statue is part of our broader effort to heal and rebuild,\u201d he said, adding that investigations into the incident are ongoing.<\/p>\n

Multinational Military Cooperation<\/strong><\/p>\n

On wider national security matters, Dr Boamah disclosed that the Ghana Armed Forces recently participated in multinational military exercises aimed at enhancing regional cooperation against emerging threats.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are taking bold steps to address violent extremism, terrorism, and transnational crimes. The Ghana Armed Forces have joined other countries in military exercises designed to improve the capacity of regional forces and promote cooperation across West Africa,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n

Call for National Unity<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Defence Minister concluded by urging Ghanaians to support peace efforts and continue trusting in the country\u2019s security agencies.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe all have a role to play in maintaining peace. Let us trust the process and work together towards a stable and prosperous Ghana,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
