Accra, June 04, GNA \u2013 The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority Caucus in Parliament has raised questions over the governing National Democratic Congress\u2019 (NDC) handling of the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, following 31 amendments made to the reintroduced legislation.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In a statement signed by Mr Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader, and issued to the Ghana News Agency on Thursday, it noted differing positions from key NDC figures on the bill\u2019s passage.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The different positions, the Minority said, included comments from President John Dramani Mahama on quorum and Speaker Alban Bagbin\u2019s call for a fresh Consideration Stage and the disagreement from the Majority Leader on that move.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe New Patriotic Party (NPP) believes these contradictions reflect an attempt to frustrate the Bill\u2019s enactment while managing the political consequences of abandoning a position that the NDC once vigorously championed,\u201d it said.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

According to the statement, the NDC\u2019s current posture contrasts sharply with its position while in opposition, when it strongly advocated for the 2024 version of the bill and criticised delays in securing presidential assent.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It noted that the reintroduced bill had undergone 31 amendments, which it described as a \u201csignificant departure\u201d from the NDC\u2019s earlier stance.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The statement argued that Ghanaians who supported the NDC based on its previous position have a right to expect the government to honour those commitments.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

It reiterated its call for the version passed by the Eighth Parliament in 2024 to be approved in its original form and forwarded for presidential assent.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, popularly known as the anti-LGBTQ+ Bill, remains one of Ghana\u2019s most debated pieces of legislation.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Discussions continue over its content, constitutionality, and the procedural steps required for it to become law.\u00a0<\/p>\n
