50 Cent\u00a0has filed a defamation suit against his ex-girlfriend\u00a0Daphne Joy<\/a>, more than one month after she publicly\u00a0accused him of rape and physical abuse\u00a0in an Instagram post.<\/p>\n

The rapper, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, filed the suit in Texas on Monday, May 6, claiming his ex\u2019s \u201cfalse accusations\u201d have subjected the star to \u201cextensive public ridicule, hatred and contempt,\u201d and that her post was a \u201cpurposeful attempt\u201d to sully his reputation and keep him from seeing their\u00a011-year-old son, Sire.<\/p>\n

The court documents, which were obtained by PEOPLE, stem from a March 28 Instagram post made by Joy, whose real name is Daphne Narvaez. In the post, Narvaez, 37, wrote that she and Sire moved to New York in order to be closer to Jackson, but that the \u201cIn da Club\u201d rapper, 48, only saw his son 10 times in two years.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am tired of upholding and protecting an image to our son that you have never even earned. Let\u2019s put the real focus on your true evil actions of raping me and physically abusing me,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n

Jackson\u2019s attorney Reena Jain of Blank Rome\u00a0tells PEOPLE in a statement that \u201cdespite being given ample opportunity to retract a false and malicious retaliatory accusation, Ms. Narvaez has shamefully chosen to interfere with her 11-year-old son\u2019s relationship with his loving father by falsely calling him a \u2018rapist.’\u201d<\/p>\n

An attorney for Narvaez did not immediately respond to PEOPLE\u2019s request for comment<\/p>\n

According to Jackson\u2019s filing, Narvaez shared her post the same day reports emerged that Jackson was seeking custody of their son\u00a0following a March lawsuit\u00a0that labeled Narvaez a \u201csex worker\u201d (That suit was filed by producer Rodney \u201cLil Rod\u201d Jones against\u00a0Sean \u201cDiddy\u201d Combs).<\/p>\n

The documents say Narvaez \u201cretaliated\u201d against Jackson\u2019s custody filing by posting \u201cmultiple defamatory statements\u201d to Instagram, which \u201cfalsely and publicly accuse Jackson of rape and physical abuse during their prior relationship, in a purposeful attempt to\u2026 destroy his personal and business reputation, harm Jackson\u2019s commercial and business interests, negatively affect his custody case, and prevent him from seeing his minor son. Narvaez\u2019s claims are false.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jackson\u2019s filing says he and his attorneys gave Narvaez \u201cmultiple opportunities\u201d to either correct or retract her statements, and when she did not, he took action in order to \u201cvindicate his rights and protect his reputation.\u201d<\/p>
