{"id":71726,"date":"2025-07-11T14:17:55","date_gmt":"2025-07-11T14:17:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sotnews.agency\/?p=71726"},"modified":"2025-07-11T14:17:55","modified_gmt":"2025-07-11T14:17:55","slug":"take-action-against-ablekuma-north-attackers-bawumia-to-mahama","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sotnews.agency\/?p=71726","title":{"rendered":"Take action against Ablekuma North attackers \u2013 Bawumia to Mahama"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class='booster-block booster-read-block'>\n                <div class=\"twp-read-time\">\n                \t<i class=\"booster-icon twp-clock\"><\/i> <span>Read Time:<\/span>2 Minute, 18 Second                <\/div>\n\n            <\/div><div>\n<p>Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has called on President John Mahama to take immediate action against individuals caught on video perpetrating acts of violence.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking in response to recent incidents that have sparked national concern, Dr. Bawumia stressed the need for swift and decisive accountability to protect the country\u2019s democratic integrity and ensure peace.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat we have to be clear about is that the people who have perpetrated these acts have been caught on video,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p><iframe width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/tdb9UVc4Z3w?si=n5r1et_b2k0icIj0\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI call on the President to take action and all the people in charge of this country, the administration, to take action to bring the perpetrators to book.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Electoral Commission (EC) ordered the rerun in 19 polling stations following disputes over unauthenticated results from the December 7, 2024, general elections.<\/p>\n<p>However, tensions escalated today as reports emerged of intimidation, clashes, and arrests of individuals in suspicious uniforms.<\/p>\n<p>Tensions escalated dramatically at the St. Peter\u2019s Society Methodist Church polling station in Odorkor, part of the Ablekuma North constituency.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Read also: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.myjoyonline.com\/hawa-koomson-allegedly-assaulted-as-chaos-erupts-in-ablekuma-north-rerun\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hawa Koomson assaulted as chaos erupts in Ablekuma North rerun<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The electoral rerun was violently disrupted when a group of unidentified \u201cmacho men\u201d stormed the premises in coordinated fashion, arriving in a pickup truck accompanied by multiple motorbikes, forcing panic among voters, electoral personnel and security forces.<\/p>\n<p>Eye\u2010witnesses report that the assailants overpowered the security detail and launched an assault on several political figures, including former MP and ex\u2010Fisheries Minister Mavis Hawa Koomson.<\/p>\n<p>Disturbing video footage shows her being forced to the ground and reportedly stomped in the chest and groin area before officers intervened.<\/p>\n<p>Other victims included NPP parliamentary candidate Nana Akua Afriyie and a female party agent, both reportedly injured amid the turmoil.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Read also: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.myjoyonline.com\/ablekuma-north-attacks-disturbing-this-is-not-the-democracy-we-want-to-see-bawumia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ablekuma North attacks disturbing, this is not the democracy we want to see \u2013 Bawumia<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Later in the morning, a <strong>JoyNews<\/strong> journalist was slapped and pushed by a thug.<\/p>\n<p>On the back of these, Dr. Bawumia warned that inaction would only embolden others and undermine national stability.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the only way we can deter this in the future. But we have seen them, and let me assure them that should they not be brought to book, we will not forget. They will be brought to book no matter how long it takes. We want peace in this country,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The Vice President described the incidents as an affront to Ghana\u2019s democratic values, stressing that such acts must not be encouraged under any administration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is not the democracy that Ghana wants to see. And so it is very important that these sorts of terrible acts are not encouraged,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>His remarks add to growing public pressure on the Mahama administration to respond decisively
