A Political Science Lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr Kwame Asah-Asante, has accused the government of failed leadership following the tragic death of Dr Kwame Adu Ofori, an emergency physician at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).<\/p>\n

Dr Ofori lost his life because the hospital lacked a vital catheterisation laboratory (cath lab), an essential facility required to treat his life-threatening heart attack.<\/p>\n

Despite desperate attempts by colleagues over the weekend to save him, the absence of this crucial medical equipment proved fatal, exposing a glaring deficiency in Ghana\u2019s healthcare infrastructure.<\/p>\n

Speaking on JoyNews AM Show<\/strong>, Dr Asah-Asante lamented, \u201cToday is a very sad day for me, as a doctor who dedicated his life to saving others was abandoned by the very state he served when it was his turn.\u201d<\/p>\n

He unleashed a scathing critique of the nation\u2019s leadership, saying, \u201cWe have leaders who are insensitive, selfish, and lack vision, wicked leaders who enrich themselves while ordinary Ghanaians suffer, yet still expect performance from the people. That is very unfair.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reflecting on the fatal absence that cost Dr Ofori his life, he said bluntly, \u201cLook at the facility the doctor needed to save his life \u2014 we simply could not provide it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dr Asah-Asante did not mince words about the systemic corruption that plagues the country, questioning, \u201cHow much of our resources go into corruption and waste? How much is spent on election campaigns with state money that should be saving lives?\u201d<\/p>\n

Calling for national accountability, he declared, \u201cWe have not done justice to our departed brother. We must bow our heads in shame.\u201d<\/p>\n

He urged Ghanaians to unite in defence of their country, stressing, \u201cWe need to organise ourselves so that we feel a sense of belonging to this state \u2014 prepared to fight and die for it when the time comes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tying this tragedy to Ghana\u2019s ongoing brain drain, he warned, \u201cLeaders complain about young people fleeing the country, but who can blame them when leadership fails so badly? Ghanaians must open their eyes and vote out those who fail them.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
