Four people have been rescued alive, while one woman is feared dead after a two-storey apartment building near the Da Yesu Ase Supermarket at Adenta New Site collapsed during a heavy downpour on Wednesday evening (June 3, 2026), trapping five occupants beneath the rubble.<\/p>\n

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) received a distress call at 6:36 pm, prompting rescue teams from the National Headquarters, supported by personnel from the Legon and Abelemkpe Fire Stations, to swiftly mobilise to the scene.<\/p>\n

The five occupants, three adults and two children, who were initially trapped when the building gave way, have been identified as Margaret Kpeli\u00a0(late 30s) \u2013 feared dead, Fred Atagba\u00a0(late 30s) \u2013 rescued, Solomon\u00a0\u2013 rescued, Seyeram Dzigda\u00a0\u2013 rescued, and David Dzigda\u00a0\u2013 rescued.<\/p>\n

Through a coordinated rescue effort, four of the five trapped occupants were pulled out alive with injuries and immediately conveyed to the 37 Military Hospital for treatment. A dog trapped in the debris was also successfully rescued alive.<\/p>\n

However, the remaining victim, Margaret Kpeli, was retrieved from beneath the rubble in an unconscious state following intensive search efforts. She was handed over to the Adenta District Police for preservation and further investigation.<\/p>\n

Before the arrival of the GNFS rescue team, two people had already been rescued by community members and taken to a hospital for medical treatment.<\/p>\n

The search and rescue operation was formally concluded around 11 pm on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The Ghana National Fire Service commended the swift intervention of community members in the initial rescue effort and expressed appreciation to personnel from all supporting stations, the Ghana Police Service, medical teams, NADMO, and other agencies whose collaboration ensured the operation was carried out effectively.<\/p>\n

Further updates will be provided as investigations into the cause of the collapse continue.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
