The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has revealed that popular dancehall artiste\u00a0Shatta Wale was not paid\u00a0for his performance at the\u00a02025 President\u2019s Cup, and that he personally\u00a0covered all production costs\u00a0associated with his set at the Accra Sports Stadium.<\/p>\n

In a statement released by the Ministry, Shatta Wale delivered the performance \u201cpro bono in honour of the President and the Ghanaian people,\u201d and took full responsibility for expenses related to dancers, costumes, rehearsals and stage production.<\/p>\n

\u201cTrue to his promise to deliver an experience that extended beyond football, the Minister engaged Shatta Wale, who not only agreed to perform pro bono but personally covered all costs related to his performance,\u201d the Ministry stated.<\/p>\n

Shatta Wale has since confirmed this in a social media post, writing: \u201cLet\u2019s bring the love of football back and Shaxi fully sponsored my performance.\u201d<\/p>\n

The announcement comes in the wake of widespread public praise for the\u00a0record-breaking <\/strong>success of the 2025 President\u2019s Cup, which filled the Accra Sports Stadium to capacity on Sunday, 6 July. The Sports Ministry described the event as\u00a0a turning point in public confidence\u00a0in domestic football.<\/p>\n

The Minister for Sports and Recreation,\u00a0Kofi Adams, is being credited for overseeing the full turnaround. This marks the second major football event under his watch to draw a full house, following Ghana\u2019s 5\u20130 win over Chad in March.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a clear demonstration of his conviction that sports, when marketed strategically, can be self-sustaining,\u201d the statement reads.<\/p>\n

The Ministry attributed the success of the President\u2019s Cup to a blend of\u00a0strategic partnerships, targeted mobilisation, and entertainment integration, all achieved\u00a0without spending a cedi of public funds.<\/p>\n

To ensure sustainable financing, a fundraising committee chaired by\u00a0Dr Tony Aubynn\u00a0and\u00a0Bola Ray was tasked with mobilising resources from both the public and private sectors. The Minister personally led the sponsorship efforts, sending out proposals and letters to potential partners.<\/p>\n

The 2025 edition sharply contrasted with previous years, notably the 2023 tournament, which struggled to attract even 5,000 fans.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Ministry said a\u00a0comprehensive media campaign, a friendly regional rivalry sparked by the Ashanti and Greater Accra Regional Ministers, and the unification of supporters\u2019 groups under one umbrella, all helped create the buzz that led to a packed stadium.<\/p>\n

Supporting performances from\u00a0Kwaku Smoke, Bogo Blay and\u00a0Camidoh\u00a0also added to the event\u2019s appeal.<\/p>\n

Beyond the showmanship, the Ministry noted that the Minister has taken steps to improve infrastructure and maintenance at the Accra Sports Stadium. A task force is now in place to manage the pitch, and critical renovations have been undertaken to meet CAF and FIFA standards. The stage for the musical performances was placed behind the goalposts to avoid damaging the playing surface.<\/p>\n

The Ministry concluded that the success of the President\u2019s Cup, coupled with the Black Stars\u2019 earlier match against Chad, \u201cdemonstrates that with innovative thinking and stakeholder engagement, the narrative around Ghanaian sports can be transformed.\u201d<\/p>\n

The statement further indicates that Kofi Adams\u2019 leadership of the 2025 President\u2019s Cup is a clear signal that public confidence is returning and that Ghana\u2019s sports sector has the capacity to thrive on its own merit.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
