Banda-Ahenkro\u00a0(Bono), June 4, GNA-Dr William Ahadzi, the Rector of the Ghana Institute of Social Democracy, has urged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to remain faithful to the ideals and principles upon which the party was founded.\u00a0
\u00a0
He\u00a0emphasised\u00a0that the NDC\u2019s long-term survival and relevance in the nation\u2019s political circle depended\u00a0largely on\u00a0the ideologies championed by the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, its founder.\u00a0

Dr Ahadzi\u00a0indicated\u00a0that the party could build its ideological foundation through continuous political orientation and\u00a0sensitising\u00a0its members and supporters to understand well and uphold the NDC\u2019s core values and virtues.\u00a0

He was speaking at a public lecture held at Banda-Ahenkro\u00a0in the Banda District of the Bono Region to commemorate the 47th anniversary of the June 4,\u00a01979\u00a0uprising. The lecture was on the theme: \u201cStrengthening state institutions: Lessons from the June 4,\u00a01979\u00a0Uprising.\u201d\u00a0

Dr Ahadzi referenced a quote late former President Rawlings during the launch of the NDC\u2019s 2016 electioneering at Cape Coast and urged party members to return to their own value systems, rather than imitate others.\u00a0

He said: \u201cThe foot soldiers of the revolution are the cadres, and they are disciplined and ideologically oriented and this process must continue because the revolution itself is ongoing.\u201d\u00a0

Dr Ahadzi said the adherence to the sound principles and values of the NDC would accordingly prevent recurring challenges that characterized the nation\u2019s political past.\u00a0

Mr Kwadwo Nyamekye Marfo, the Bono Regional\u00a0Chairman\u00a0of the NDC, said the June 4 Uprising\u00a0remained\u00a0a significant event that altered the country\u2019s trajectory that led to the establishment of the District Assembly concept, and thereby deepening decentralization.\u00a0

He said: \u201cThe uprising underscores the importance of leadership committed to serving the people,\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

He called for stronger accountability mechanisms within the nation\u2019s governance system.\u00a0

Mr Marfo advocated the reactivation of tribunals within the judicial system, arguing that tribunals had previously proven effective in promoting accountability.\u00a0
\u00a0
Comrade Anane Adjei, a cadre, noted the significance of the uprising, and it ought not to be underestimated.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThat raised political consciousness among the masses,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Comrade Adjei\u00a0extolled the late former President Rawlings for fostering national unity, after the uprising, and thereby averting divisions that could have arisen in the aftermath.\u00a0

Comrade Adjei challenged the youth to take an active interest in national development, saying that the future of the country depended largely on the commitment and hard work of the youth.\u00a0

He urged the youth to learn a cue from the nation\u2019s history and contribute meaningfully to the accelerated national progress and sustainable development.\u00a0
