The Ghana Police Service has successfully foiled a planned armed robbery targeting a gold consignment worth over GH\u00a21.3 million.<\/p>\n

In an intelligence-led operation, three suspects\u2014Adams Zibo, Massawud Yussif, and Kenneth Khartey\u2014were apprehended on Thursday, 26th June 2025, along the Accra\u2013Akuapem\u2013Mamfe road as they attempted to execute the heist.<\/p>\n

The Police revealed that the operation was initiated by the Special Support Unit (SSU) at the National Headquarters on Wednesday, June 25, after intelligence indicated that a gold dealer\u2019s driver and a man posing as his bodyguard had conspired to rob the dealer during a scheduled delivery the following day.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur intelligence gathering indicated there was a coordinated attempt to divert and steal a significant gold consignment, and swift action was necessary,\u201d the police said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Kenneth Khartey was first arrested near Akuapem\u2013Mamfe while trailing a Land Cruiser transporting the gold on a motorbike. Later that day, Adams Zibo and Massawud Yussif were picked up at East Legon in an unregistered blue Hyundai vehicle.<\/p>\n

Investigations have since confirmed that the suspects had procured firearms, motorbikes, and a getaway vehicle in preparation for the robbery, and were to be responsible for disposing of the stolen gold.<\/p>\n

Fortunately, the gold dealer was rescued unscathed, and the consignment\u2014estimated to weigh 1.2 kilograms and valued at GH\u00a21,350,343.53\u2014was safely recovered.<\/p>\n

The suspects are currently in police custody assisting with further investigations and will be arraigned before court in due course.<\/p>\n
