The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, has emphasised the importance of compiling a credible voter register as election 2024 beckons.<\/strong><\/p>\n

She said that without a credible voter register, there can never be transparent elections.<\/p>\n

Addressing a news conference in Accra on Monday, May 6\u2014the eve of the 2024 limited registration exercise\u2014Jean Mensah said the EC is poised to deliver a credible and transparent election.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a commission, we remain poised and ready to deliver credible, transparent and peaceful elections and electoral processes starting with the 2024 registration exercise.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is well known that the voters register is a bedrock of an election. Without a credible and accurate voter register, there can be no transparent and acceptable elections,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n

The Electoral Commission (EC) will commence this year\u2019s limited voter registration exercise on Tuesday, May 7, ahead of the December 7 general elections.<\/p>\n

The 21-day exercise will end on Monday, May 27, 2024. It aims at individuals who have turned 18 years old since the last registration to be enrolled in the national album.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the exercise will be conducted at the EC\u2019s district offices and in difficult-to-access electoral areas.<\/p>\n

\u201cPermanent centres will be set up at the District offices while mobile teams would be used to register eligible applicants in the difficult to access Electoral Areas. The list of registration centres will be provided to the Political Parties no later than twenty-one (21) days to the Registration exercise,\u201d the EC noted.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the management of the Ghana Education Service<\/a> (GES) has granted Senior High\/Senior High Technical School students who have attained 18 years of age or older four days permission to go home and partake in the exercise.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe students have been granted four days off from campus, effective Tuesday, May 7, 2024 to Friday, May 10, 2024 to partake in the exercise in line with the constitutional right of all Ghanaian citizens to exercise their franchise.<\/p>\n

GES statement<\/p>\n

\u201cRegional Directors are kindly requested to communicate this information to all Heads of SHS\/SHTS within their jurisdiction for compliance,\u201d GES said in a statement on Monday.<\/p>\n
