Former world number one Rafael Nadal\u2019s Madrid Open campaign came to an emotional end with a straight-sets defeat to Czech youngster Jiri Lehecka at the Caja Magica.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Nadal, a five-time champion at the tournament, waved goodbye to the Madrid Open after falling to Lehecka in a 7-5, 6-4 loss.<\/p>\n

Speaking after the match, the 37-year-old expressed gratitude for the opportunity to compete once again in Madrid, calling the experience \u201cvery special, positive, and emotional.\u201d<\/p>\n

He thanked everyone who has supported him throughout his career and hinted at a return next year, despite his plans to retire after the 2024 season.<\/p>\n

Reflecting on his performance, Nadal acknowledged Lehecka\u2019s strong play and expressed satisfaction with his own performance despite concerns about his fitness coming into the tournament.<\/p>\n

Looking ahead, Nadal will draw confidence from his three victories in Madrid as he prepares to compete in the French Open, where he aims to make his mark for a final time.<\/p>\n

The 14-time champion at Roland Garros missed the tournament in 2023 due to injury but is determined to showcase his prowess once again when the French Open begins on May 26.<\/p>\n
