The Ashanti Regional branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said it views the alleged bribery in the Ejisu by-election with utmost concern.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The party in a statement condemned the Electoral Commission (EC) for what they believe is an attempt to cover up.<\/p>\n

\u201cFollowing widespread reports of this incident, the EC has announced the withdrawal of the implicated officers from ongoing election duties. However, we demand transparency and accountability from the EC.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe call upon the EC to disclose the names and polling stations where these officers were deployed, as we suspect a hasty attempt to conceal the truth of the actual polling stations involved and to evade responsibility,\u201d a statement issued by Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NDC, Dr Frank Amoakohene, said.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the statement added \u201cit has come to our attention that the individual seen in the video is the Kwadaso Member of Parliament, Kingsley Nyarko. The NDC finds Mr. Nyarko\u2019s alleged actions dishonorable and unacceptable.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are committed to pursuing this matter rigorously through appropriate channels, including engagement with the Special Prosecutor and the Privileges Committee of the Parliament of Ghana. The EC led by Madam Jean Mensah must do more to redeem their credibility as their unprofessional conduct does not inspires confidence in the lead up to the 2024 general elections. The NDC remains steadfast in our commitment to upholding the integrity of the electoral process and ensuring that all citizens can exercise their democratic rights without fear or favor.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe urge the EC to uphold its mandate with impartiality and transparency, and we will not hesitate to hold them accountable for any breaches of trust or misconduct.\u201d<\/p>\n

The EC had announced that its attention had been drawn to a video circulating on social media depicting an alleged bribery at one of the Polling Stations at the ongoing Ejisu Constituency By-Elections.<\/p>\n

The commission says the Polling Station has been identified as the Fumesua Pentecost Church Polling Station with Polling Station Code F311503.<\/p>\n

The video shows a gentleman approaching the table and dropping an envelope on the table manned by the Presiding Officer and Ballot Issuer.<\/p>\n\n

\u201cThe Electoral Commission has taken immediate steps and has withdrawn the two (2) temporary staff while investigations take place.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Commission upholds the principles and values of integrity, truth and transparency. These values are reinforced during the training of all temporary staff. The Commission will not countenance acts which cast a slur on the integrity of the institution and will not hesitate to sanction its officials who violate its laws.<\/p>\n\n

\u201cThe report on the incident will be made available to the public in due course,\u201d a statement issued by Deputy Chairman, Operations, Samuel Tettey said.<\/p>\n
