Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) continue to pose a significant threat to public health worldwide, claiming millions of lives each year.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In Ghana, the impact of NCDs is profound, with approximately 94,400 deaths attributed to these diseases annually. Recently, key stakeholders gathered for the Second Global Financing Dialogue to address the growing burden of NCDs and mental health disorders.<\/p>\n

Ghana\u2019s Stance on NCDs:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Lucas Annan (Principal Administrative Manager, MOH) highlighted Ghana\u2019s commitment to tackling the NCD burden through robust policy measures.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe country has implemented the National NCD Policy of 2020, the UAC Roadmap, and the Essential Service Package to strengthen the health system\u2019s capacity to address NCDs effectively. These policies aim to shift focus away from solely combating communicable diseases and toward addressing the growing burden of NCDs in Ghana.\u201d<\/p>\n\n

Insights from the Global Financing Dialogue:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Labran Musah (National Coordinator, Ghana NCD Alliance) emphasized the urgent need for increased attention to NCDs and mental health on a global scale. Despite the significant burden of NCDs, only 2% of global health funds are allocated to addressing these diseases. The Second Global Financing Dialogue provided a platform for countries to share best practices and propose strategies to enhance NCD and mental health services. It underscored the importance of collective action and increased investment to achieve global health goals.<\/p>\n

Perspectives from Key Stakeholders:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Lucas Annan noted: \u201cOur policies, such as the National NCD Policy of 2020 and the UAC Roadmap, are intended to address the burden of NCDs in Ghana and strengthen our health system. We cannot continue to focus solely on communicable diseases.\u201d<\/p>\n
