The estate of\u00a0Tupac Shakur\u00a0has issued\u00a0Drake\u00a0a cease-and-desist letter threatening legal action over the use of an\u00a0AI-generated\u00a0version of Pac\u2019s voice on \u201cTaylor Made Freestyle,\u201d per court documents obtained by Complex.<\/p>\n

As\u00a0Billboard\u00a0was\u00a0first to report, Drake has been informed by litigator Howard King that he has 24 hours to pull \u201cTaylor Made Freestyle\u201d or he will face legal action.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Estate is deeply dismayed and disappointed by your unauthorized use of Tupac\u2019s voice and personality,\u201d the cease-and-desist letter allegedly reads.<\/p>\n

\u201cNot only is the record a flagrant violation of Tupac\u2019s publicity and the estate\u2019s legal rights, it is also a blatant abuse of the legacy of one of the greatest hip-hop artists of all time. The Estate would never have given its approval for this use.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the time of writing, Drake still has the track available to stream on his Instagram page, though he\u2019s yet to release it on streaming platforms.<\/p>\n

The track targets Kendrick Lamar, with whom the rapper\u00a0has been beefing with\u00a0since K Dot\u00a0came for him\u00a0in his verse on Future and Metro Boomin\u2019s \u201cLike That.\u201d Pac\u2019s estate took issue with using his likeness to target Lamar.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe unauthorized, equally dismaying use of Tupac\u2019s voice against Kendrick Lamar, a good friend to the Estate who has given nothing but respect to Tupac and his legacy publicly and privately, compounds the insult,\u201d the letter continues.<\/p>\n

Additionally, the late rapper and actor\u2019s estate argued \u201cTaylor Made Freestyle\u201d has caused \u201csubstantial economic and reputational harm\u201d by giving listeners the \u201cfalse impression that the estate and Tupac promote or endorse the lyrics for the sound-alike.\u201d<\/p>\n

King wrote that the intellectual property of Pac\u2019s discography was potentially \u201cscraped to creat the fake Tupac AI on the record,\u201d and as a result, Drake has been asked to detail \u201chow the sound-alike was created and the persons or company that created it, including all recordings and other data \u2018scraped\u2019 or used.\u201d<\/p>\n

Drake has yet to respond, but Pac\u2019s estate has said it will \u201cconsider whether an informal negotiation\u201d can resolve the matter if he meets their demands.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you do not comply, our client has authorized this firm to pursue all of its legal remedies including, but not limited to, an action for violation of \u2026 the estate\u2019s copyright, publicity and personality rights and the resulting damages, injunctive relief, and punitive damages and attorneys\u2019 fees,\u201d the letter concludes.<\/p>\n

\u201cTaylor Made Freestyle\u201d also features an AI-generated voice of\u00a0Snoop Dogg, who hasn\u2019t announced plans to take legal action\u00a0but did react\u00a0to the track on social media.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey did what? When? How? Are you sure? Y\u2019all have a good night,\u201d Snoop said in a video. \u201cWhy everybody calling my phone, blowing me up? What the fuck? What happened? What\u2019s going on? I\u2019m going back to bed. Good night.\u201d<\/p>\n

The song\u00a0utilises a form of AI technology\u00a0to make it appear as though Pac and Snoop are asking for Kendrick Lamar to respond to Drake and his \u201cPush Ups\u201d diss, which only officially hit streaming services on Friday, April 19.<\/p>\n
