Private legal practitioner, Martin Kpebu, has labelled the report by auditing <\/span>firm,<\/span>\u00a0KPMG on the contract\u00a0<\/span>between the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML) as nothing but a \u2018whitewash\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to him, the auditing firm maintains a symbiotic relationship with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), undermining its ability to conduct a fair and objective assessment.<\/span><\/p>\n

In an interview on Eyewitness News<\/strong><\/em> with Umaru Sanda, on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, Mr Kpebu stated that the intertwined nature of KPMG\u2019s dealings with the <\/span>GRA,<\/span>\u00a0suggests a conflict of interest.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis KPMG report is not up to scratch<\/span>, it\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0just a whitewash.\u00a0<\/span>they<\/span>\u00a0haven\u2019t done any good job at all<\/span>\u2026<\/span>from day one, the writing was on the wall that KPMG was not up to the task because they couldn\u2019t be independent enough. They have relations with\u00a0<\/span>GRA<\/span>\u201d he stated<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cKPMG itself does business with GRA. KPMG audits them\u00a0<\/span>and<\/span>\u00a0GRA also gives them business. So it was more like a \u2018you scratch my\u00a0<\/span>back\u00a0<\/span>and<\/span>\u00a0I scratch your\u00a0<\/span>back<\/span>\u201d he added.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The report revealed that SML had been paid a total of GH\u00a21,061,054,778.00 from 2018 to date.<\/p>\n

The disclosure was made in a press statement released by the Communications Director of the Presidency, Eugene Arhin, on Wednesday, April 24.<\/p>\n

The Presidency\u2019s April 24 press statement said \u201cthe total fees paid under the contracts from 2018 to the date of suspension amount to GH\u00a21,061,054,778.00. No fee has been paid for the upstream petroleum audit and minerals audit services.\u201d<\/p>\n

It added that \u201cthe total fees estimated to be paid to SML under the 2023 Contract for five years is GH\u00a25,173,091,857.00, which averages to about GH\u00a21 billion per year.\u201d<\/p>\n
