Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins died on the set of the Western film Rust in New Mexico in 2021, after a gun held by Hollywood actor, Alec Baldwin fired a live round while he was rehearsing a scene.<\/p>\n

He has denied pulling the trigger and has pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter. He is expected to go on trial in July.<\/p>\n

The film\u2019s armourer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who was responsible for the weapons on the set, has been jailed after being found guilty of involuntary manslaughter.<\/p>\n

Baldwin, who is also a co-producer of Rust, plays the film\u2019s lead and namesake \u2013 an outlaw whose 13-year-old grandson is convicted of manslaughter.<\/p>\n

The actor, 64, is best known as Jack Donaghy on the NBC sitcom 30 Rock, and for his portrayal of Donald Trump on sketch show Saturday Night Live.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the time, he said<\/a>: \u201cMy heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna.\u201d He said he was \u201cfully cooperating with the police investigation\u201d.<\/p>\n

23 October 2021<\/h2>\n

In his first statement since the on-set shooting, injured director Souza\u00a0says he is \u201cgutted by the loss of my friend and colleague\u201d Hutchins<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Hutchins was fatally shot in the chest. Souza, who had been standing behind her, was treated in hospital for a wound to the shoulder, and later discharged.<\/p>\n

Court submissions show assistant director David Halls did not know the gun contained live ammunition, and indicated it was unloaded by shouting \u201ccold gun!\u201d<\/p>\n

(Reuters) The shooting occurred on the film set of the western Rust<\/p>\n

It is revealed Rust\u2019s assistant director, David Halls, had been\u00a0sacked from a previous production, war drama Freedom\u2019s Path,<\/a>\u00a0over gun safety violations in 2019.<\/p>\n

A statement from the producers of that film told news agency AFP that Halls was dismissed after a crew member \u201cincurred a minor and temporary injury when a gun was unexpectedly discharged\u201d.<\/p>\n

Halls could not be reached for comment. There is no suggestion that he was at fault for the Rust incident.<\/p>\n

28 October 2021<\/h2>\n

Criminal charges may still be filed<\/a>\u00a0over the shooting on the set of Rust, police say, a week after the tragedy.<\/p>\n

Investigators said a \u201clead projectile\u201d had been removed from director Souza\u2019s shoulder, and that it appeared to be a live round.<\/p>\n

Sante Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza said police had recovered 600 pieces of evidence so far \u2013 including three firearms and 500 rounds of ammunition.<\/p>\n

31 October 2021<\/h2>\n

\u201cThe day I arrived in Santa Fe and started shooting I took her [Hutchins] to dinner with Joel,\u201d he said. \u201cWe were a very, very well-oiled crew shooting a film together, and then this horrible event happened.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said police had ordered him not to discuss the ongoing investigation, but described the accident as a \u201cone-in-a-trillion episode\u201d.<\/p>\n

He tells reporters he would be in favour of limiting the future use of firearms on film productions to protect people\u2019s safety.<\/p>\n

A legal action against Alec Baldwin alleges<\/a>\u00a0that the film script did not require him to fire a gun when he fatally shot cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.<\/p>\n

Script supervisor Mamie Mitchell \u2013 who called police after the shooting on the New Mexico film set \u2013 filed the case.<\/p>\n

Her lawyer, Gloria Allred, accused the actor of \u201cplaying Russian roulette\u201d when he fired the gun without checking it first.<\/p>\n

1 December 2021<\/h2>\n

Police obtain a further warrant<\/a>\u00a0to search the premises of an arms supplier.<\/p>\n

An affidavit \u2013 a written statement of evidence \u2013 with the warrant says police were told ammunition for the film had come from several sources, including PDQ Arm & Prop.<\/p>\n

The affidavit said the ammunition supplier\u2019s owner, Seth Kenney, had told investigators the live round may have been from some \u201creloaded ammunition\u201d.<\/p>\n

He said the ammunition he supplied for the film consisted of dummy rounds and blanks, according to the affidavit.<\/p>\n

3 December 2021<\/h2>\n

Baldwin admits his acting career may be over,<\/a>\u00a0telling George Stephanopoulos of ABC News: \u201cIt could be\u201d, adding that he did not care.<\/p>\n

He also says he \u201cdidn\u2019t pull the trigger\u201d of the gun during the incident, and adds: \u201cSomeone put a live bullet in a gun. I know it\u2019s not me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Baldwin said that, while he didn\u2019t feel guilty, the incident had left him emotionally scarred.<\/p>\n

According to court records, Halls was given the gun by Gutierrez-Reed. Her lawyers have said she did not know where \u201cthe live rounds came from\u201d. That question lies at the centre of the police investigation.<\/p>\n

17 December 2021<\/h2>\n

Police obtain a search warrant for Baldwin\u2019s phone<\/a>, issued by a Sante Fe court. The warrant claims \u201cthere may be evidence on the phone\u201d that could be \u201cmaterial and relevant to this investigation\u201d.<\/p>\n

Investigators move to confiscate Baldwin\u2019s iPhone to look at text messages, emails, web browser history and other information.<\/p>\n

Despite obtaining a search warrant more than three weeks earlier, in December, officials say they have been unable to obtain Baldwin\u2019s phone.<\/p>\n

The actor hits back<\/a>\u00a0at suggestions he is not complying with the investigation.<\/p>\n

In a\u00a0long video message posted to his Instagram page<\/a>, the actor says \u201cany suggestion\u201d he had been deliberately evasive with investigators was a \u201clie\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey can\u2019t just go through your phone and take your photos, or your love letters to your wife, or what have you,\u201d Mr Baldwin said. \u201cThat is a process that takes time. But of course, we are going to comply 1000% with all that.\u201d<\/p>\n

13 January 2022<\/h2>\n

Gutierrez-Reed sues the prop supplier<\/a>, alleging his company distributed \u201ca mix of dummy and live ammunition\u201d on set.<\/p>\n

She filed her legal claim in New Mexico state court, and is seeking unspecified damages from Seth Kenney and PDQ Arm and Prop LLC. Kenney has not yet commented.<\/p>\n

Her claim states: \u201cThe ammunition was misrepresented as only dummy ammunition when it contained both dummy and live ammunition.\u201d<\/p>\n

But in December, Kenney had told Good Morning America: \u201cIt\u2019s not possible that they [the live rounds] came from PDQ or myself personally.\u201d<\/p>\n

Court documents state Gutierrez-Reed said police discovered seven bullets suspected of being live after the shooting, according to AFP news agency.<\/p>\n

The documents said the bullets were distributed among a box of cartridges with other ammunition and cartridge belts, intended for the actors to use as accessories.<\/p>\n

The agency issues the maximum $136,793 (\u00a3105,000) fine to Rust Movie Productions.<\/p>\n

Baldwin\u00a0reaches a settlement with Hutchins\u2019 family<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Filming of Rust will continue in January 2023, with her widower Matthew on board as the movie\u2019s executive producer.<\/p>\n

All parties believe Hutchins\u2019 death was an accident, her husband said.<\/p>\n

The exact terms of the settlement, which is subject to court approval, are not disclosed.<\/p>\n

Baldwin and Gutierrez-Reed will each will be charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter<\/a>\u00a0over the shooting of Halyna Hutchins, District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies announces.<\/p>\n

Lawyers for both say they intend to fight the charges in court.<\/p>\n

Both face up to 18 months in jail and a $5,000 (\u00a34,040) fine if convicted. They will be tried by a jury, prosecutors say.<\/p>\n

Santa Fe\u2019s District Attorney\u2019s Office accuses the actor of \u201cmany instances of extremely reckless acts\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf Mr Baldwin had performed mandatory safety checks with armourer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed and not pointed the gun at Hutchins, the \u201ctragedy would not have occurred\u201d, wrote Robert Shilling. Hutchins\u2019 family\u00a0files a new civil suit against Alec Baldwin and producers involved in Rust.<\/a><\/p>\n

Their lawyer, Gloria Allred, says they were \u201cdevastated by the shocking killing\u201d and \u201cfeel strongly that anyone who is responsible for her loss must be held accountable\u201d.<\/p>\n

The case alleges intentional infliction of emotional distress and negligence, and is being brought in Los Angeles County Superior Court by Hutchins\u2019 mother, father and sister, who are living in Ukraine.<\/p>\n

Filming on Rust is to\u00a0resume this spring<\/a>, according to US reports, with Baldwin remaining in the starring role. It is shifting location to Montana.<\/p>\n

A mix of new and old crew members will work on the film, with Bianca Cline taking over as cinematographer.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Hutchins\u2019 widower Matthew has also approved a documentary about his late wife, producers said.<\/p>\n

The documentary, made \u201cat [executive producer, Mr] Hutchins\u2019 behest, and with his blessing and support\u201d will explore Ms Hutchins\u2019 life and \u201cfinal work, including the completion of the film\u201d, a statement said.<\/p>\n

Rust Movie productions, which Baldwin is part of, have said that the scene which was being rehearsed when Ms Hutchins was shot has now been rewritten, and that the \u201cany use of working weapons and any form of ammunition\u201d had been barred from the set.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors in New Mexico\u00a0drop firearm enhancement charges against Baldwin<\/a>, in a move which reduces possible prison time for the actor, as the charges carry a mandatory five-year prison sentence.<\/p>\n

He still faces up to 18 months in prison under involuntary manslaughter charges.<\/p>\n

Heather Brewer, Santa Fe county district attorney spokesperson, said the prosecution dropped the firearm enhancement charge to \u201cavoid further litigious distractions by Mr Baldwin and his attorneys\u201d.<\/p>\n

According to CBS News, the BBC\u2019s US partner, prosecutors also dropped the firearm enhancement charge for Gutierrez-Reed.<\/p>\n

A statement, released by New Mexico special prosecutors Kari Morrissey and Jason Lewis, said that \u201cover the last few days\u2026 new facts were revealed\u201d in the case, requiring further investigation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis decision does not absolve Mr Baldwin of criminal culpability and charges may be refiled,\u201d the statement continued, adding: \u201cOur follow-up investigation will remain active and ongoing.\u201d<\/p>\n

A lawyer for Mr Baldwin praised the move by prosecutors, saying: \u201cWe are pleased with the decision to dismiss the case against Alec Baldwin and we encourage a proper investigation into the facts and circumstances of this tragic accident.\u201d<\/p>\n

The family of Halyna Hutchins\u00a0said they will sue Alec Baldwin despite his criminal charges being dropped.<\/a><\/p>\n

A lawyer for Ms Hutchins\u2019 parents and sister said that the actor \u201ccannot escape responsibility\u201d for her death.<\/p>\n

Mr Baldwin had already reached a deal with her widower and 10-year-old son.<\/p>\n

1 June 2023<\/h2>\n

A judge approved a settlement agreement<\/a>\u00a0for the family of Halyna Hutchins.<\/p>\n

Lawyers representing Ms Hutchins\u2019 husband Matthew and their son Andros sued Baldwin and the film\u2019s other producers for wrongful death in 2022.<\/p>\n

An undisclosed settlement was agreed later the same year.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, US judge Bryan Biedscheid approved that agreement, which will see youngster Andros receive \u201cperiodic payments\u201d when he reaches the ages of 18 and 22.<\/p>\n

A weapons supervisor on the set of Alec Baldwin\u2019s film Rust\u00a0was likely hungover on the day a cinematographer was fatally shot, prosecutors alleged.<\/a><\/p>\n

They accused Hannah Gutierrez-Reed of drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana in the evenings during filming.<\/p>\n

In response, her lawyer said prosecutors had mishandled the case and resorted to \u201ccharacter assassination\u201d.<\/p>\n

Ms Gutierrez-Reed did not testify, but her lawyer said prosecutors had failed to prove his client was the sole person responsible for the fatal shooting.<\/p>\n

15 April 2024<\/h2>\n

Ms Gutierrez-Reed was given the maximum sentence<\/a>\u00a0of 18 months in prison.<\/p>\n

Before being sentenced, she tearfully addressed the court, saying that her heart ached for the Hutchins family and friends. \u201cThe jury found me guilty; that does not make me a monster. That makes me human,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
