The anticipated presentation of the mini budget has been delayed for two consecutive days following the absence of the Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam<\/a> again in parliament on Tuesday, December 17, 2024.<\/p>\n

This will be the second conservative time the minister is missing in action without any explanation from the government, this has triggered sharp criticism from the Minority.<\/p>\n

The House was recalled specifically for the budget presentation, but the Minister\u2019s repeated failure to appear has fueled speculation and accusations.<\/p>\n

The situation was compounded by the absence of Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin and other key NPP figures.<\/p>\n

While an acting Majority Leader informed Parliament that the NPP leadership was also in the dark regarding the Minister\u2019s whereabouts and the delay, the Minority remained unconvinced.<\/p>\n

Minority Chief Whip Kwame Agbodza alleged a deliberate attempt by the NPP to obstruct financial processes, potentially impacting the incoming government after the 2024 elections.<\/p>\n

Agbodza expressed concerns about the potential consequences of the delay, particularly the potential impact on public sector salaries. He warned that the NPP government would be held fully accountable should workers experience delays in receiving their wages.<\/p>\n

Addressing Parliament, Mr. Agbodza described the situation as a \u201ctroubling mystery\u201d with serious implications. He questioned the government\u2019s decision to communicate the document to Parliament if they were not prepared to present it. \u201cWhy did you communicate that document to parliament if you are not ready to lay it?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n

He further emphasized that the document is already in the possession of the Speaker, highlighting the lack of a valid reason for the delay.<\/p>\n

He further warned of constitutional consequences for public officials who fail to discharge their duties, placing the blame squarely on President Akufo-Addo, Vice President Bawumia, and the Finance Minister should the budget not be addressed before the current parliamentary term expires.<\/p>\n
