Dutch forward Memphis Depay has reveals the reason why he moved to Brazil was because the people are similar to Ghanaians.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The 30-year-old signed for Corinthians as a free agent in September on a two-year deal that expires in December 2026.<\/p>\n

While many questioned the move and interpreted it as a sign of impending retirement given he has previously at Atletico Madrid last season.<\/p>\n

In an exclusive interview with Flashscore<\/a><\/strong>, Memphis Depay explained his decision to join Brazil\u2019s Corinthians, highlighting a cultural connection with Ghana, a country he frequently visits and supports through various projects.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe people in Brazil are like Ghana, very enthusiastic, energized people. The country is beautiful and they have good food. The training facility is amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI just knew that Brazil is like the Mecca of football. All the talents are coming from there so I wanted to see that and they convinced me, he added.<\/p>\n

Before Memphis Depay joined Corinthians, the club was struggling in 17th place and facing relegation threats. This challenge was something Depay was eager to embrace.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor my decision (to join Corinthians), I felt like I needed to do something different. I like a challenge. I didn\u2019t know anything about the league.<\/p>\n

\u201cCorinthians is a huge team in Brazil, the biggest. So far it\u2019s going really well and I\u2019m happy. I feel like I\u2019m home, he added.<\/p>\n

Despite playing Brazil, Depay has played down all talks of a possible retirement.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m 30. What are you talking about retiring? It\u2019s a long way. I\u2019m young. I\u2019ve been in the game a long time but I have a long time left God willing,\u201d he revealed.<\/p>\n

Depay\u2019s impressive performance, with seven goals and one assist in 11 matches, significantly boosted Corinthians to seventh place, securing a spot in the Copa Libertadores qualifiers.<\/p>\n
