It has been revealed that each New Patriotic Party (NPP)<\/a> candidate for the 2024 parliamentary elections spent an average of GH\u20b510 million from the primaries to the main national contest. <\/strong><\/p>\n

This information was disclosed by Dr. Dickson Adomako Kissi, the Member of Parliament for Anyaa-Sowutuom, during an interview on Channel One TV on Saturday, December 14, 2024.<\/p>\n

Dr. Adomako Kissi noted that his colleagues who lost the 2024 parliamentary contest invested significant financial resources but still faced defeat.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn average, every NPP Member of Parliament who went into this battle may have spent close to GH\u20b510 million. From primaries to date. GH\u20b510 million on average. And that is because they had faith and they felt that they could win,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

He further explained that parliamentary aspirants and candidates spend substantial amounts to win their seats due to the various expectations from constituents and electorates. Many candidates make these financial sacrifices intending to serve their constituents, only to face the harsh reality of electoral defeat.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese are some of the challenges we have with our democracy. And I think that we may have to dial down. I was talking with Honourable Henry Quartey, and he felt that people were also demanding more than was doable from a lot of ministers. But who caused it? The promises were many,\u201d Dr. Adomako Kissi added.<\/p>\n

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) suffered significant losses in both the presidential and parliamentary elections in the 2024 polls. In the presidential elections, the NPP\u2019s candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, lost by more than 1.6 million votes to the National Democratic Congress\u2019 John Dramani Mahama. In the parliamentary elections,<\/a> the NDC has so far won 185 seats compared to the 80 seats won by the NPP. There are a few outstanding seats or constituencies yet to be declared by the Electoral Commission.<\/p>\n
