Ranking member of the Mines and Energy Committee of Parliament and MP for the Yapei-Kusawgu constituency, John Abdulai Jinapor, has stated that the NDC will no longer countenance attempts by the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government to rename projects commissioned under former President John Dramani Mahama.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mr. Jinapor\u2019s comments follow reports that the government is set to commission the Kumasi 1 Thermal Power Plant (K1TPP), believed to be some six units of the 10-unit Ameri power plants procured under the erstwhile Mahama administration between 2013 and 2015.<\/p>\n

According to the Yapei-Kusawgu lawmaker, the government, having failed to achieve anything meaningful in the Energy sector, has \u201cdone the unthinkable by rebranding the Ameri plant procured under the able leadership of former President John Dramani Mahama under a new name called Kumasi 1 Thermal Plant (K1TPP).\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAll in a desperate attempt to deceive Ghanaians,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

Mr. Jinapor further explained, \u201cThe Ameri Power Plants, made up of 10 units, each with a total capacity of 250 megawatts, is a modular and versatile plant allowing for flexibility to generate power even with limited gas supply.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe only thing the Akufo-Addo administration has done is to relocate the units to Kumasi in Ashanti, and as if this is not enough, they have gone a step further by deciding to recommission the same plants 17th April 2024, interestingly, this same plant was commissioned under President Mahama.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis attempt to appropriate achievements of President Mahama and present them as that of this non-performing government will no longer be countenanced,\u201d he wrote<\/a>.<\/p>\n
