Fern\u00e1ndez apologised this week after he posted a video on Instagram following his team\u2019s 1-0 win over\u00a0Colombia\u00a0in the Copa Am\u00e9rica final that showed him and other Argentina players singing an offensive song that singled out\u00a0France\u00a0players of African heritage.<\/p>\n

Chelsea and FIFA have\u00a0opened an investigation into the incident\u00a0after the French Football Federation (FFF) announced it would file a legal complaint over \u201cracist and discriminatory remarks\u201d made by Fern\u00e1ndez and his Argentina teammates.<\/p>\n

Mac Allister, who does not appear on the video, told Argentinian radio station\u00a0Urbana play: \u201cEnzo has already apologised, and he explained what happened. There\u2019s nothing more to add.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe know Enzo, we know he would never do it with bad intention. It\u2019s more of a chant that stuck and it\u2019s more in a mocking tone than anything else. The most important thing is that Enzo apologised and we have to give value to that.\u201d<\/p>\n

The same chants \u2014 by some Argentina fans \u2014 emerged before France and Argentina met in the 2022 World Cup final, which Argentina won.<\/p>\n

Fern\u00e1ndez\u2019s\u00a0club teammates\u00a0Wesley Fofana\u00a0and\u00a0Christopher Nkunku\u00a0of France have both\u00a0expressed their discontent.<\/p>\n

Mac Allister said his country is not racist.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe reality is that here we are not a racist country,\u201d he said. \u201cWe are not accustomed to talk about racism. It\u2019s an important topic.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have to be careful with what one does and one says, especially in Europe because it\u2019s more sensitive there.\u201d<\/p>
