Executive Secretary for the Creative Arts Agency, Gyankroma Akufo-Addo, has emphasized how crucial it is for the country to create a distinctive musical identity in order to increase its international recognition.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Speaking at a stakeholders engagement with artistes and artiste managers to gather input from creatives and key players in the creative industry for the promotion of the #playghana initiative recently, she emphasized the significance of creating a unique musical identity that has a global appeal.<\/p>\n

While acknowledging Ghana\u2019s historical contribution to Highlife music, the daughter of President Akufo-Addo, underscored the need for creation of a specific, globally appealing music genre.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs it stands, when we mention Ghana music, the immediate question is often \u2018what is Ghana music?\u2019 Everybody is doing everything and so we are supporting everything.<\/p>\n

\u201cHowever, our producers and musicians must be able to come out with a particular sound that is coming from Ghana. For instance, if it is Highlife, let\u2019s do it or Hiplife, let\u2019s stick to that. Whichever one, I think the most important thing is to have a music sound from Ghana that will be internationally recognised,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Gyankroma stressed that the current situation makes it challenging to identify a distinct Ghanaian sound in the global music scene, which should be different.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur music industry needs to reach a point where audiences worldwide can readily identify Ghana\u2019s musical signature,\u201c<\/em>\u00a0she emphasised.<\/p>\n

She clarified that the initiative\u2019s goal is not to limit Ghanaian musicians to specific genres but to create a unified and recognisable music identity.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe aim is to foster a unique sound that can stand out on the global stage while allowing the diversity and creativity of Ghanaian musicians to flourish,\u201d\u00a0she added.<\/p>\n

In December last year, Ghana launched the PlayGhana project in December, a significant initiative aimed at boosting the exposure of Ghanaian music on local radio stations.<\/p>\n

This project is particularly crucial at a time when the local music industry is experiencing a downward trend, and it seeks to promote and support homegrown talent by ensuring more airtime for Ghanaian artists.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
