Accra, Ghana\u2019s bustling capital, is projected to experience heightened congestion by 2030 due to significant population growth, according to recent data from the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS).<\/p>\n

The GSS\u2019s latest population projections for 2021 to 2050 highlight a notable increase in population across the Greater Accra region.<\/p>\n

As of 2024, Ghana\u2019s total projected population exceeds 33 million, up from 30.8 million in 2021.<\/p>\n

The Greater Accra Region, in particular, is expected to house a growing number of school-aged children, projected to reach 2.96 million by 2030.<\/p>\n

Additionally, the youth population aged 15 to 24 years is set to expand by almost twice its size.<\/p>\n

Deputy Government Statistician, Dr Faustina Frempong who presented the data cautioned the \u201cgovernment to intervene in the exponential population growth in the Greater Accra region covering smaller land spaces.\u201d<\/p>\n

The aim of the population projection is to offer insights into the future demographic landscape whilst informing policymakers, researchers, and the public about potential changes.<\/p>\n

According to the GSS, this is critical for tracking the implementation of national, continental and global development goals.<\/p>\n
