\u200ePrampram, June 25, GNA \u2013 Ecobank Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability through a nationwide tree planting and ecosystem restoration campaign to support climate action and a greener economy.\u200e\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u200eThe initiative formed part of the Bank\u2019s month-long activities to mark World Environment Day 2026, including a return to\u00a0Prampram\u00a0Senior High School in the Greater Accra Region, where it undertook a tree planting exercise in 2012.\u200e\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u200eMadam Charlotte Amanquah, Head of Commercial Banking at Ecobank Ghana, said the Bank\u2019s return to the school after 14 years\u00a0demonstrated\u00a0the importance of sustained action in environmental conservation.\u200e\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u200eShe said more than 1,200 seedlings were donated to the school during the\u00a0initial\u00a0intervention to support replanting on the then developing campus and create a greener environment for teaching and learning.\u200e\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u200e\u201cFourteen years later, we are proud to return here, not just to plant more trees but to reinforce a legacy project. Sustainability is not built in a day. It is the result of consistent, deliberate action over time,\u201d she\u00a0stated.\u200e\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u200eMadam\u00a0Amanquah\u00a0said Ecobank\u2019s sustainability agenda had expanded beyond tree planting to include ecosystem restoration, reforestation of degraded lands, support for renewable energy projects, digital banking solutions that reduced environmental impact, and partnerships that promoted inclusive and responsible growth.\u200e\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u200eShe said this year\u2019s\u00a0programme\u00a0was being implemented in schools, hospitals and churches across the country while contributing to national forest restoration efforts.\u200e\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u200eMadam\u00a0Amanquah\u00a0urged students to regard themselves as custodians of the nation\u2019s future and to take environmental sustainability seriously.\u200e\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u200eMadam Grace Taylor, Range Manager of the Tema-Ada District of the Forestry Commission, said trees were essential to human survival and called for collective efforts to reverse environmental degradation.\u200e\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u200eShe said the \u201cTree for Life\u201d initiative, launched by President John Dramani Mahama in March 2025,\u00a0sought\u00a0to restore degraded landscapes, address climate\u00a0change\u00a0and support the development of a green economy.\u200e\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u200eMadam Taylor said trees provided oxygen, prevented soil erosion, supported\u00a0biodiversity\u00a0and supplied food and medicine, adding that deforestation was contributing to rising temperatures, erratic rainfall, water\u00a0shortages\u00a0and declining soil fertility.\u200e\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u200eShe stressed the need for proper aftercare, including watering, weeding, fire\u00a0prevention\u00a0and monitoring of planted trees.\u200e\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u200e\u201cPlanting is only half of the work. Without aftercare, we are just planting for death. With aftercare, we grow forests,\u201d she said.\u200e\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u200eMr\u00a0Peter Djan, Headmaster of\u00a0Prampram\u00a0Senior High School, commended Ecobank Ghana for sustaining its partnership with the school.\u200e\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u200eHe said the mature trees across the campus reflected the long-term benefits of the earlier intervention and underscored the value of partnerships that delivered lasting impact.\u200e\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u200eMr\u00a0Djan assured the Bank and its partners that the school would\u00a0maintain\u00a0the newly planted trees and encouraged students to actively support the exercise through responsible environmental stewardship.\u200e\u00a0<\/p>\n
