For the first time since the seizure of the Smyrtos tanker last Sunday in the English Channel, another sanctioned tanker is crossing the strait. The Russian vessel overcame a third of the English Channel, at the same time the British ship following it turned off the transmitter.<\/p>\n

According to AIS vessels, the Russian Forwarder tanker continues its journey through the English Channel and has already covered a third of the way, having passed the narrowest section \u2014 through the territorial waters of Great Britain. On the evening of June 18, the ship was already sailing in the international waters of the Strait. The tanker follows from Primorsk to China and can carry up to 115 thousand tons of oil.<\/p>\n

At the same time, the British patrol ship HMS Tyne, which was following the tanker, turned off the transmitter and its location is unknown.<\/p>\n

It is known that the British ship was following the Forwarder, which is under US, EU and\u00a0UK, at least 100 miles. At the same time, HMS Tyne participated in the previous seizure of the Smyrtos tanker. According to the British Navy, the ship was intercepting.<\/p>\n

The main difference between the Forwarder and the captured Smyrtos is that the first one flies the Russian flag. Obviously, this will be a test of whether London will decide to take action against Russian vessels, since sanctions cannot even be a reason for inspecting a vessel and previously the UK and the country\u00a0The EU used the tankers’ lack of a flag as an excuse.<\/p>\n

In addition, the Russian frigate Admiral Grigorovich may also be in the English Channel. The day before, he was in the strait and fired warning shots for the yacht, which was on an intersecting course.<\/p>\n

As EADaily<\/strong><\/a> reported, after the seizure of the Smyrtos tanker, the sanctioned vessels stopped passing through the English Channel, and are now bypassing the UK through the north. Vessels with Russian oil that are not under sanctions continue to pass through the strait. The captured Smyrtos tanker itself is at\u00a0Portland in the English Channel. And the British authorities, despite the age of the ship at 17, may have to seriously try to find some inconsistencies on the ship. According to Equasis, the vessel regularly undergoes technical inspections and was last inspected in August 2025 in China. The British, in turn, hope that Cameroon will cancel the registration of the vessel and the tanker will be without a flag.<\/p>\n

In this situation, it is difficult for Russia to take any legal actions, since the sanctions courts have nothing to do with\u00a0Russia, except for the cargo itself. After the tightening of sanctions, only a small part of the tankers of the so-called shadow fleet passed under the Russian flag.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
