Accra, June 18, GNA \u2013 Ghana International Bank Plc (GHIB) has signed a Confirming Bank Agreement with the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) under the Transaction Guarantee Instrument.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The signing\u00a0marks\u00a0an important milestone in the Bank\u2019s strategy to expand support for African trade,\u00a0investment\u00a0and economic development.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The facility will enhance GHIB\u2019s capacity to support importers, exporters and financial institutions engaged in cross-border commerce across Africa and beyond.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A statement issued in Accra by Mr.\u00a0Kofi Safo Akyea,\u00a0the\u00a0Marketing\u00a0and\u00a0Communications Manager,\u00a0GHIB\u00a0said it further reinforced\u00a0the Bank\u2019s commitment to providing trade finance solutions that enabled\u00a0businesses to access international markets, strengthen supply\u00a0chains\u00a0and contribute to sustainable economic growth.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It said GHIB joined a select list of financial institutions, approved based on the AfDB eligibility criteria, reinforcing its standing as a trusted partner in\u00a0facilitating\u00a0cross-border trade and finance across the continent.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The statement said the partnerships reflected the shared commitment of both institutions to promoting intra-African trade, supporting private sector\u00a0development\u00a0and helping to address the significant trade finance gap that continued\u00a0to constrain economic growth across Africa.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mr\u00a0Ian Greenstreet,\u00a0the\u00a0Chief Executive Officer of\u00a0GHIB, commenting on the agreement, said:\u00a0\u201cThis agreement with the AfDB represents a significant milestone for Ghana International Bank and our clients.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

He said it strengthened\u00a0their ability to support businesses engaged in international trade and reinforced\u00a0their\u00a0commitment to\u00a0facilitating\u00a0economic growth and investment across Africa.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a UK-regulated bank with deep roots in Africa and strong international connections, GHIB is uniquely positioned to serve as a bridge between African markets and global capital,\u201d he added.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The CEO said they were delighted to partner with the AfDB in support of increased trade,\u00a0investment\u00a0and economic\u00a0opportunities\u00a0across the continent.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mr. Solomon Quaynor, Vice President, Private Sector, Infrastructure\u00a0and\u00a0Industrialisation\u00a0of\u00a0AfBD\u00a0Group,\u00a0said:\u00a0\u201cAfDB is delighted to partner with GHIB to support trade across Africa, especially in low-income countries and transition states such as Sierra Leone, The Gambia, Guinea and Liberia,\u00a0among others.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

He\u00a0said GHIB\u2019s strength in providing confirming bank support to local banks in these and other African countries\u00a0was\u00a0perfectly aligned with AfDB\u2019s mandate of promoting regional integration.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

He said with the increasing implementation of the Africa Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA), AfDB had the strategic\u00a0objective\u00a0of reducing Africa\u2019s trade finance gap by enhancing the confirming bank capacity of African financial institutions.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mr. Quaynor\u00a0said it was to ensure that institutions such as GHIB played\u00a0an even bigger role in promoting intra-Africa trade.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He said GHIB\u00a0had a long-standing history of supporting trade, investment and financial flows between Africa, the United\u00a0Kingdom\u00a0and the wider international community.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Bank continues to invest in its capabilities, strategic partnerships and customer proposition as it pursues its vision of becoming the leading banking partner for businesses operating across the Africa\u2013international markets corridor,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The agreement is expected to expand access to trade finance, increase support for cross-border\u00a0transactions\u00a0and further strengthen GHIB\u2019s role as a trusted banking partner for businesses\u00a0operating\u00a0across Africa and international markets.\u00a0<\/p>\n
