A 20-member delegation of Mauritian financial institutions converged on Accra last Friday for a high-level closed business forum designed to connect Ghanaian enterprises with cross-border financing and investment structures, as both countries seek to deepen economic ties within a broader West Africa corridor strategy.<\/p>\n

The forum, held at the Accra Marriott Hotel on 22 May 2026, was jointly organised by the Economic Development Board (EDB) Mauritius and the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), under the theme \u201cMauritius: Your Strategic Platform for Ghanaian Capital, Growth and Global Expansion.\u201d It formed the final leg of a three-country initiative that began in Nigeria on 8 May and passed through Ivory Coast on 21 May before concluding in Accra, reflecting EDB\u2019s intent to build structured investment linkages across West Africa\u2019s most significant economic markets simultaneously.<\/p>\n

The Mauritius delegation brought institutional depth rather than just diplomatic presence. It comprised Tier-1 banks, fund managers, corporate service providers and regulated wealth management firms, offering Ghanaian businesses access to debt capital, equity, mezzanine, blended and bridge financing across short, medium and long-term horizons. The delegation was led by Dr Jyoti Jeetun, Mauritius Minister of Financial Services and Economic Planning, who participated directly in the forum proceedings.<\/p>\n

EDB Mauritius Chief Executive Officer Mahen Abhimanu Kundasamy set the tone in his keynote address, framing Accra\u2019s position in continental trade in unusually direct terms. \u201cToday, Accra feels like something even more significant,\u201d he said. \u201cWe\u2019re standing at the very epicentre of the African Continental Free Trade Area.\u201d He pressed the assembled executives to move past aspiration: \u201cStop talking about potential and start talking about proven results.\u201d<\/p>\n

GIPC Director of Monitoring, Evaluation and Outreach, Dr George Asafo-Agyei, reinforced the strategic framing from the Ghanaian side, describing the forum as extending well beyond conventional investment promotion. \u201cThis forum goes beyond traditional investment promotion,\u201d he said. \u201cIt represents a strategic platform for knowledge sharing, dialogue, experience sharing and partnership building between Ghanaian enterprises and Mauritian institutions.\u201d He also highlighted how both the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) are generating meaningful cross-border trade and growth opportunities for private sector players on both sides.<\/p>\n

The panel session, moderated by Dele Sanyaolu, Head of Corporate Banking at Access Bank Plc, drew substantive engagement from participants on financing structures and investment strategy. Formal proceedings closed with a structured networking session, oriented toward building working relationships rather than simply exchanging contacts.<\/p>\n

AfrAsia Bank and Mauritius Commercial Bank served as headline sponsors. Additional institutional backing came from Rogers Capital, Trident Trust, ABC Banking, Axis Judiciary Ltd, Warwyck Private Bank Plc, AACapital International Ltd and Nexus Financial Services, with support from the Mauritius International Financial Centre (MIFC) and Mauritius Africa Fintech Hub.<\/p>\n

The forum\u2019s structure, closed to all but chief executives, institutional investors, senior partners, managing directors and designated government stakeholders, signals that both sides are pursuing capital and partnership outcomes rather than broad awareness. Whether the relationships formed translate into deployable financing for Ghanaian enterprises will be the practical measure of the initiative\u2019s value.<\/p>\n
