Spain coach Luis de la Fuente named a 26-man World Cup squad which features Lamine Yamal but is without any Real Madrid players on Monday, with defender Dean Huijsen joining Dani Carvajal in missing out.<\/p>\n

Spain \u2014 who crashed out in the round of 16 at the 2022 World Cup but then won Euro 2024 in style \u2014 are among the favourites to win this summer\u2019s tournament, kicking off against Cape Verde on June 15 before playing Saudi Arabia and Uruguay in Group H.<\/p>\n

De la Fuente said he wasn\u2019t concerned by fitness doubts over Yamal, Nico Williams and Mikel Merino, saying he had \u201cno doubt\u201d the trio would be ready for Spain\u2019s debut game in Atlanta.<\/p>\n

In an event in Madrid, De la Fuente named Athletic Club\u2019s Unai Sim\u00f3n, Arsenal\u2019s David Raya and Barcelona\u2019s Joan Garc\u00eda as his three goalkeepers, with Real Sociedad\u2019s \u00c1lex Remiro absent.<\/p>\n

In defence, De la Fuente included Marc Cucurella, Alejandro Grimaldo, Pau Cubars\u00ed, Aymeric Laporte, Marc Pubill, Eric Garc\u00eda, Marcos Llorente and Pedro Porro.<\/p>\n

In midfield, he named Pedri, Fabi\u00e1n Ruiz, Mart\u00edn Zubimendi, Gavi, Rodri, \u00c1lex Baena and Merino.<\/p>\n

Mikel Oyarzabal, Dani Olmo, Williams, Y\u00e9remy Pino, Ferran Torres, Borja Iglesias, V\u00edctor Mu\u00f1oz and Yamal make up the forward line.<\/p>\n

As well as Huijsen and Carvajal \u2014 who hadn\u2019t made Spain\u2019s 55-player long list \u2014 Atletico Madrid\u2019s Robin Le Normand was also omitted.<\/p>\n

Barcelona\u2019s Ferm\u00edn L\u00f3pez is absent after suffering a broken foot.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s difficult,\u201d De la Fuente said, when asked about leaving players out. \u201cWe think about every possible scenario that can happen in games with our opponents, and their characteristics\u2026 We\u2019ve chosen these 26. I think we\u2019ve covered the needs of the team\u2026 I don\u2019t look at whether they play for one team or another.\u201d<\/p>\n

De la Fuente also named nine \u201csupport players\u201d including Real Madrid\u2019s Gonzalo Garc\u00eda and Barcelona\u2019s Marc Bernal, who will be with the squad in training ahead of the tournament.<\/p>\n

Spain will play a pre-tournament friendly against Iraq in A Coru\u00f1a, Galicia, on Thursday, June 4, before crossing the Atlantic for another friendly match with Peru in Puebla, Mexico on June 9.<\/p>\n

De la Fuente said Spain\u2019s medical reports suggested Yamal, Williams and Merino \u2014 who returned for Arsenal in their last game of the Premier League season on Sunday \u2014 would be available to play Cape Verde on June 15.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re very calm,\u201d he said. \u201cI think that if there are no setbacks, we can almost have everyone available from the first game. The doctor and fitness coach have been visiting the clubs and talking to them. We\u2019ve been coordinating\u2026 I have no doubt they\u2019ll be ready for the first game, and if not, they\u2019ll be ready for the second.\u201d<\/p>\n

De la Fuente praised Carvajal \u2014 who also said farewell to Madrid in their last game of the season at the Bernab\u00e9u \u2014 and former captain \u00c1lvaro Morata, who led Spain at Euro 2024.<\/p>\n

They\u2019ve left an unforgettable legacy of leadership,\u201d the coach said. \u201cBut the generation behind them are perfectly prepared, they\u2019re cut from the same cloth.\u201d<\/p>\n
