Achimota Squash Club made history after emerging champions of the 1st \u00a0OKW Squash Tournament held at the plush Freedom Hills Hotel at Kwahu Nkwatia in the Kwahu East district of Ghana\u2019s Eastern region, on Saturday, May 16, 2026.<\/p>\n

Competing against Kumasi-based 4 Garrison Squash Club and Koforidua Sports Club, Achimota Squash Club displayed dominance throughout the competition, powering through from the quarterfinals to lift the coveted trophy.
\nThe club\u2019s victory was driven by outstanding performances from the Anafo brothers \u2014 Clement Anafo and Ernest Anafo \u2014 alongside Richard Abagna and Mark Owiredu-Gyening.
\nAdding to the club\u2019s historic triumph was fifteen-year-old first-year student of Achimota School, Yaw Nimo-Ahinkorah, who emerged as the youngest participant in the tournament. Yaw’s participation underscored the importance of nurturing young talent to secure a brighter future for the sport. It is worth noting that Achimota Squash Club’s Gloria Kayasa was the only female player at the tournament.
\nThe tournament, which officially opened the Freedom Hills Squash Court, formed part of a four-day celebration marking the 72nd birthday of respected entrepreneur and philanthropist, Kwame Wadie (OKW). The occasion attracted distinguished guests and sports enthusiasts from across the country.
\nSpeaking at the closing ceremony, Vice President of the Ghana Squash Association, retired Army General Stanley Alloh, commended Opanyin Kwame Wadie (OKW) for investing in a world-class squash facility to support the growth and development of squash in Ghana.
\nHe further encouraged greater interest and investment in the sport, highlighting squash\u2019s historic inclusion in the 2028 Summer Olympics, scheduled to take place in Los Angeles, USA, from July 14 to 30.
\nThe OKW Squash Tournament is expected to become an annual sporting event, strengthening Kwahu\u2019s reputation as a premier tourism destination while contributing to sports development and economic growth in Ghana.<\/p>\n
