The\u00a0Manhyia\u00a0Palace Museum has\u00a0honoured\u00a0five Ghanaian creative arts personalities and three foreign nationals for their outstanding contributions to the development of the creative arts sector at the local,\u00a0national,\u00a0and international levels.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The award ceremony, held at the\u00a0Manhyia\u00a0Palace Jubilee Auditorium in Kumasi, formed part of the second edition of the\u00a0Otumfuo\u00a0Osei Tutu II Art Awards,\u00a0organised\u00a0by the museum in collaboration with UNESCO and other partners.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Ghanaian awardees were Mr.\u00a0Ibrahim Mahama, Founder of Savannah Centre for Contemporary Art;\u00a0Red Clay and Nkrumah Volini in Tamale; Mr.\u00a0Yaw Owusu, an installation artist and painter based in New York; Mr.\u00a0Larry Otoo, painter; Mr.\u00a0Victor Butler, painter; and Ms.\u00a0Afia Prempeh,\u00a0a\u00a0portrait artist.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The foreign awardees were Mr.\u00a0Leon Radegonde, the first contemporary artist from Seychelles; Ms.\u00a0Julie Hudson, African Curator at the British Museum; and Mr.\u00a0Osei Bonsu,\u00a0a\u00a0curator.\u00a0<\/p>\n

They\u00a0received plaques from\u00a0the Asantehene,\u00a0Otumfuo\u00a0Osei Tutu II, and his wife, Lady Julia Osei Tutu.\u00a0<\/p>\n

They also received branded, multi-connected rechargeable ICT diaries from Justice and Repair.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Director of the\u00a0Manhyia\u00a0Palace Museum, Mr.\u00a0Ivor Agyeman-Duah, in a welcome address, said the occasion marked 85 years since the announcement of the death of a former Asante King.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He commended the 2026 laureates for their immense contributions to the creative arts industry and acknowledged the role of Lady Julia Osei Tutu as Chief Patron of the Art Awards.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts and Guest of Honour, Mrs.\u00a0Dzifa Gomashie, said the creative economy was not merely about entertainment, but a critical pillar for national development, job creation, youth\u00a0empowerment\u00a0and global cultural influence.\u00a0<\/p>\n

She said the vision aligned with the mission of the\u00a0Otumfuo\u00a0Osei Tutu II Art Awards, which\u00a0sought\u00a0to promote Ghanaian and African artistic heritage while nurturing future generations of creatives.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Minister assured the Asantehene of the government\u2019s commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at promoting tourism,\u00a0culture,\u00a0and the creative arts sector.\u00a0<\/p>\n

She said the Ministry remained committed to safeguarding Ghana\u2019s cultural heritage through stakeholder engagement, technical consultations, and collaboration with Parliament, civil society\u00a0organisations, private sector\u00a0practitioners\u00a0and international partners.\u00a0<\/p>\n

UNESCO Country Representative, Mr.\u00a0Edmond Moukala, described art as not merely an object of admiration, but an expression of history that challenged assumptions and imagined the future.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He said the award scheme was helping to create a strong cultural ecosystem that enhanced artists\u2019 visibility, mentorship\u00a0opportunities\u00a0and long-term support systems.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mr.\u00a0Moukala\u00a0linked the initiative to Ghana\u2019s leadership in the global reparations discourse, noting that the return of African cultural heritage restored dignity, reconnected communities to their history, and enabled future generations to appreciate ancestral creativity within their cultural environment.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Dignitaries at the event included Professor Rita Akosua Dickson, Vice Chancellor of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology;\u00a0Ms\u00a0Yvonne Darkwa Poku, President of Justice and Repair; and H.E. Tamas Feher, Hungarian Ambassador to Ghana.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Also present were Mr.\u00a0Mouduzi Nozinisa,\u00a0the\u00a0Chief Executive Officer of the Eswatini National Trust Commission;\u00a0Rune\u00a0Skinnebach,\u00a0the\u00a0European Union Ambassador to Ghana; and Ms.\u00a0Johanna O.\u00a0Svanikier, former Ghana Ambassador to France and President of The Heritage and Cultural Society of Africa Foundation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
