The former District Chief Executive for Amansie South, Clement Opoku Gyamfi, together with the Member of Parliament for Bantama, Francis Asenso-Boakye, and other New Patriotic Party (NPP) leaders, have launched the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) Registration Booths Project.<\/p>\n

The project is aimed at strengthening political engagement on campuses by providing dedicated and well-equipped structures to support student registration and organisational activities of TESCON, the party\u2019s tertiary wing.<\/p>\n

The event took place on Thursday, February 26, at the GIMPA Moon Court and forms part of a nationwide initiative to donate registration booths to tertiary institutions across the country.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the launch, Mr Gyamfi said the party had engaged the youth to gather their views before refining the idea.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe spoke to the youth to give their thought on TESCON, and there were measures in place on how to retrieve it and to make sure it is good,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He admitted that the party currently lacks accurate data on its student membership in some institutions.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you ask me the number of TESCON that is in Kumasi Poly, KSTU, we don\u2019t know. If you ask me the number also in UG, we don\u2019t know,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

According to him, this gap has pushed the party to improve its database. <\/p>\n

\u201cSo we have to find ways on how to collect our database. Fortunately, the party has brought in some measures to make registrations for new members.\u201d<\/p>\n

The former Amansie South DCE explained that the new system combines the traditional booth registration with a digital platform. <\/p>\n

\u201cNow we have gone the normal way and also added the digital way.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo even though you see the registration booth there, we, however, have the QR code scan that anywhere you are, whether at the university or any institution, you can access it easily.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said the data collected would be stored by the party for its internal use, noting that while some booths are ready, others are still being completed.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are working on the booth, though we have to give the manufacturers time. We are still gathering the rest of the money for the manufacturer to finish the job.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Gyamfi said the initiative is not limited to tertiary institutions.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe institutions are a lot. It is not only TESCON. We have constituencies that have TESCON, even the students in SHS who are 18 years and above, and the youth who are also not in school. What can we do to also bring them to the party?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n

He said more youth-focused initiatives would be introduced in the coming months. \u201cWe are polishing this initiative before we can bring it out. We will be bringing out initiatives that will benefit the youth.\u201d<\/p>\n

Looking ahead to the 2028 general elections, he expressed confidence in the party\u2019s chances to secure victory.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a lot we can do to come into power in 2028, and that starts now. If we get the data of both boys and girls for the election and it\u2019s convincing, we will carry on with the initiative.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have heard all the challenges, and we have the solutions, and I assure you, we have better solutions,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the media, the MP for Bantama, Francis Asenso-Boakye, announced that the party would begin issuing new membership cards from March 1 to 31, 2026.<\/p>\n

He disclosed that an aspirant for the National Youth Organiser position has started creating platforms to make it easier for students to register outside their constituencies.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs part of this initiative, one of the aspirants for the National Youth Organiser position, Kwame Poku, has begun creating platforms for students to enable them to register outside their constituencies,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Mr Asenso-Boakye described students as a key support base for the party, saying, \u201cStudents are very important to us, and they understand how the NPP has supported them through the Free SHS policy.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said the efforts are intended to rebuild the party after its 2024 electoral defeat. <\/p>\n

\u201cI believe the defeat we suffered in 2024 serves as a lesson to us. We have learned from our mistakes and will not repeat them.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also defended the party\u2019s record in government. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe NDC cannot match the NPP when it comes to implementing people-centred policies. In fact, the NHIS and Free SHS remain the most impactful social intervention policies in the country, and both were initiated by the NPP.\u201d<\/p>\n

Among those present at the event were the NPP\u2019s 2024 parliamentary candidate for Dome Kwabenya, Mike Oquaye Jnr; the MP for Afigya Kwabre North, Collins Adomako-Mensah; the MP for Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah; and other party delegates.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
