The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Awutu Senya, Eghan Kalala Nyamekye, has confirmed that eight students sustained injuries with three reported to be in critical condition, following a violent incident at the District Schools Athletics Games in Agona Swedru.<\/p>\n

Speaking in an interview on Joy FM\u2019s Top Story<\/strong> on Monday, Mr. Nyamekye described the incident as serious and deeply troubling.<\/p>\n

According to him, the severity of the injuries overwhelmed local health facilities, necessitating the transfer of the affected students to Accra for further medical examination and specialised care.<\/p>\n

\u201cCurrently, we have about eight affected students, with three or four in critical condition. The impact was significant,\u201d he stated, describing the situation as \u201cvery bad.\u201d<\/p>\n

The incident follows the circulation of disturbing videos on social media over the weekend, showing senior high school students in the Central Region physically assaulting one another. The footage has sparked widespread public outrage and reignited national conversations about student discipline, safety, and the responsibilities of schools and families.<\/p>\n

Mr. Nyamekye disclosed that the matter was immediately escalated to the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Regional Director of Education. <\/p>\n

He added that the Regional Director, together with the head teachers of Central Secondary School and Abreche Secondary School, have been directed to report to Accra for further scrutiny and investigations.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Central Regional Directorate of GES has confirmed the arrest of three suspects linked to violent disturbances that disrupted the District Schools Athletics Games in Agona Swedru on Thursday, February 19, 2026.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
