Once upon a time in the Republic of Uncommon Sense, we did not merely build houses.<\/p>\n

We built intentions.<\/p>\n

Drive through almost any community in Ghana and you will see them \u2014 proud pillars, exposed iron rods, half-finished walls standing confidently against the sky like monuments to optimism.<\/p>\n

These are not abandoned buildings.<\/p>\n

They are declarations.<\/p>\n

They are architectural announcements that say:<\/p>\n

\u201cI have started.\u201d<\/p>\n

And in our culture, starting is almost completion.<\/p>\n

We celebrate foundation. We organize slab ceremonies. We take photos with cement mixers. But when it comes to roofing? Windows? Plumbing?<\/p>\n

Ah.<\/p>\n

That is where mathematics interrupts ambition.<\/p>\n

Let us examine the formula.<\/p>\n

You buy land.<\/p>\n

You start building.<\/p>\n

You assume money will \u201ccontinue.\u201d<\/p>\n

Then inflation enters like an uninvited uncle at a wedding \u2014 loud, disruptive, and impossible to ignore.<\/p>\n

Suddenly, cement prices have increased. Iron rods are behaving like gold. Labour has adjusted upward. Transport has adjusted upward. Your salary, however, remains patriotic \u2014 unchanged since independence.<\/p>\n

And just like that, the project moves to what every Ghanaian understands as:<\/p>\n

Phase Two.<\/p>\n

Phase Two is a mysterious location.<\/p>\n

Nobody has seen it.<\/p>\n

But everybody believes in it.<\/p>\n

\u201cNext year we will continue.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter the bonus we will continue.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen cocoa season is good, we will continue.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the iron rods continue standing faithfully toward heaven, rusting gently in prayer.<\/p>\n

But let us pause the laughter for a moment.<\/p>\n

Uncompleted buildings in Ghana are not just neighborhood jokes.<\/p>\n

They represent:<\/p>\n

* Locked capital<\/p>\n

* Financial strain<\/p>\n

* Urban disorder<\/p>\n

* Security risks<\/p>\n

* Mosquito training academies<\/p>\n

* Emotional stress for families<\/p>\n

Sometimes, entire life savings are frozen in concrete that never reaches a roof.<\/p>\n

Sometimes, a man\u2019s retirement plan is standing roofless, collecting rainwater and regret.<\/p>\n

And here is the deeper truth:<\/p>\n

This is not just about buildings.<\/p>\n

It is about how we plan.<\/p>\n

We start businesses without runway.<\/p>\n

We launch initiatives without feasibility studies.<\/p>\n

We announce before we analyze.<\/p>\n

We pour before we calculate.<\/p>\n

The building is simply the metaphor.<\/p>\n

In the Republic, ambition runs faster than arithmetic.<\/p>\n

Now imagine a different culture.<\/p>\n

Imagine we normalized:<\/p>\n

Planning before pouring.<\/p>\n

Financing before foundation.<\/p>\n

Completion before expansion.<\/p>\n

Imagine children growing up asking, \u201cDaddy, why do old houses have iron rods sticking out?\u201d<\/p>\n

And we respond, \u201cThat was the old Ghana.\u201d<\/p>\n

Progress would not be loud.<\/p>\n

It would be finished.<\/p>\n

Now let me ask you:<\/p>\n

How many unfinished buildings are in your area?<\/p>\n

Is yours one of them?<\/p>\n

What stopped it?<\/p>\n

Inflation? Over-ambition? Poor planning? Life?<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s have an honest conversation.<\/p>\n

Because satire is not mockery.<\/p>\n

It is reflection wearing a smile.<\/p>\n
