The\u00a0Ashanti South Command of the\u00a0Ghana Police Service has intercepted\u00a0large\u00a0quantities\u00a0of\u00a0prohibited drugs\u00a0suspected to be smuggling\u00a0along the\u00a0Obuasi\u2013Dunkwa\u00a0highway, leading to the arrest of five suspects.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The operation, carried out by officers stationed at the\u00a0Tweapease\u00a0Police barrier near Obuasi, resulted in the seizure of significant quantities of tramadol and\u00a0tapentadol\u00a0concealed in sealed boxes and transported on a commercial passenger\u00a0bus bound for\u00a0Ayamfuri\u00a0in the central\u00a0region.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP),\u00a0Cephas\u00a0Arthur, who spoke to the media on behalf\u00a0of the Command,\u00a0disclosed\u00a0that\u00a0the interception occurred on Thursday, February 13, 2026, during routine security checks at the barrier.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

ACP Arthur\u00a0said\u00a0a thorough search conducted on a red OA Kia\u00a0Grandbird\u00a0bus uncovered two sealed brown boxes\u00a0containing\u00a0257 packs of\u00a050mg\u00a0tramadol, 58 packs of\u00a0250mg\u00a0tramadol\u2014commonly referred to as \u201cRed\u201d\u00a0and 58 packs of\u00a0225mg\u00a0tapentadol, popularly known as \u201cRoyal.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

He\u00a0indicated\u00a0that the quantities seized were suspected of being earmarked for unlawful distribution.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The driver of the vehicle, identified as 37-year-old Joseph Nkrumah, was\u00a0immediately\u00a0arrested.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

During interrogation, he allegedly\u00a0identified\u00a0Perpetual, a native of Ayamfuri, as the consignment\u2019s purported owner.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

ACP Arthur further revealed that investigations took a dramatic turn the following day, February 14, 2026, when Perpetual, accompanied by three other women\u2014Diana Mensah, 40; Abena Neyea, 43; and Nana Akua, 35 \u2014reportedly appeared at the Tweapease barrier with GH\u00a250,000.<\/p>\n

The money was allegedly intended to induce the officers to interfere with the ongoing investigation.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

However, the officers\u00a0maintained\u00a0their professional integrity and swiftly arrested the four women.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The GH\u00a250,000 has since been\u00a0retained\u00a0as evidential material to support further investigations and prosecution.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has reiterated its unwavering commitment to combating drug trafficking and other criminal activities within its\u00a0jurisdiction.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Command cautioned individuals involved in illicit trade to desist, stressing that the region remained\u00a0resolute and vigilant in safeguarding communities against the dangers posed by illegal drug circulation.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
