NDC General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, says the party must hold itself to a higher moral and political standard if it wants to lead Ghana\u2019s reset agenda with credibility.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Joy News\u2019 PM Express on Tuesday, he insisted that the NDC cannot build public trust by simply attacking the governing NPP while repeating the same conduct it condemns.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne thing I\u2019ve always said is this, you can\u2019t simply be attacking your opponent when you were doing exactly the same thing as your opponent,\u201d he said. \u201cSo that hypocrisy, for me, is not something that we should encourage.\u201d<\/p>\n

The NDC General Secretary also acknowledged that his insistence on values and principles may not always be popular inside the party, and could even affect his personal political prospects.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou must be ready for consequences,\u201d he said, stressing that he is willing to defend what he believes is right, even at the cost of my political ambition.\u201d<\/p>\n

Responding to host Evans Mensah on what message he carries to party delegates, Mr Kwetey said he is not introducing any strange ideas.<\/p>\n

He argued that the party\u2019s anthem already captures the values he is advocating, including the duty to put Ghana first.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe delegates are delegates of the National Democratic Congress, and they sing with pride\u2026 the anthem of the party,\u201d he said, adding that the anthem speaks to the need \u201cto always place our country as number one.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to him, the problem is not that the party lacks values, but that many may have lost sight of them.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fact that you may not fully understand, it doesn\u2019t mean that effort must not be made to help us all remember and be anchored on those values,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Mr Kwetey tied his argument directly to the NDC\u2019s public message of resetting Ghana, insisting that the party must first demonstrate that reset internally.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have said we are resetting the country. And to reset the country means business as usual has to be over,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

He rejected what he described as simplistic partisan thinking.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou simply cannot expect that everything is done. NPP is bad, ndc is good. No, NPP is bad. But it doesn\u2019t mean ndc is perfect,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He said the party must improve itself in order to produce better leaders for the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur party must become better and better, because that\u2019s the only way we can produce leaders who truly will be able to place this country where it ought to be,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

For him, attacking the NPP alone will not be enough. \u201cSimply accusing the NPP is no, it\u2019s not enough,\u201d he stressed.<\/p>\n

Mr Kwetey said the NDC owes the public more because of the responsibility placed on it.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo whom a lot is given, a lot is expected,\u201d he said, adding that \u201cthe people of Ghana have given us a lot of responsibility.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said the biggest obligation is to the youth.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe owe it to, especially the young generation of Ghanaians, to make sure that the examples we are setting are different examples,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Mr Kwetey also downplayed the obsession with personal ambition in politics, saying his focus is on national transformation.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor me\u2026 it\u2019s not an ambition. It\u2019s about transforming our country,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He ended with a reminder that political leadership is temporary, but values must endure.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m here today, tomorrow, I\u2019m not going to be here,\u201d he said. \u201cBut let\u2019s make sure we are putting down foundations and putting principles that would make the party greater and stronger, and that will make the country greater and stronger.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
