The National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, has criticised the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) for what he described as an \u201cirresponsible\u201d handling of investigations into alleged vote buying during the party\u2019s presidential primaries.<\/p>\n

Speaking in an interview on Joy FM\u2019s Newsnight<\/strong> on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, Mr. Boakye said the timing and manner of the OSP\u2019s public statements raised questions about fairness and consistency.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat the OSP did is even more irresponsible. Why don\u2019t we talk about it? We already had the presidential primaries a week or so ago. Nothing came from the OSP immediately after the Ayawaso East NDC primary, and then they issued a statement. That statement was very irresponsible,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The comments come after the OSP announced on February 8, 2026, that it had commenced investigations into alleged vote buying during the NPP presidential primaries held on January 31, 2026, as well as the NDC parliamentary primaries at Ayawaso East on February 7, 2026.<\/p>\n

Mr. Boakye argued that the OSP\u2019s decision to highlight certain allegations while appearing to delay scrutiny of others created the impression of selective enforcement.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the open paragraph, talking about NPP\u2026 because they wanted to engage in some equalization mechanism. That is why I felt that statement was very irresponsible,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

He also addressed claims regarding vote inducements during the NPP presidential primaries, emphasising that monetary amounts reportedly offered to delegates were exaggerated and not enough to influence outcomes.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf somebody comes and gives 100 Ghana cedis as transportation, it is not enough. Five hundred cedis cannot induce anyone to vote in a particular way,\u201d Mr. Boakye said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n
